Hi Mary

I added you as manager for Thomas Mason. Thanks for the interest. This profile and many more were started by Allan Harl Thomas, who is now deceased. I inherited the profiles..

Hi Mary,

I saw you added the black heritage tag and wanted to stop by to let you know we have a project that is here to support your work with African-American genealogy.  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:US_Black_Heritage

Here is one of our help pages that will help you with documenting the enslavers you mentioned. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:US_Black_Heritage_Project_Learning_the_Heritage_Exchange_System

If there's any way we can help you, please feel free to reach out.

I do have a question. An enslaved man Nixon-7446 emancipated by my 5th great grandfather's will later purchased his wife from her enslaver. My understanding is that if he bought her as a slave, she remained a slave until he had her emancipated. And the census records seem to reflect the same. Am I supposed to add her as a slave? Gotta say, that idea is giving me the willies. I've never found her freedom papers, but the next census show them all free. Thanks in advance for your guidance.

Hi Mary,

Yes, that was the course many had to take to keep their family together. And yes, she will be added as a slave with her husband and the man he bought her from under a Slave Owner heading. Feel free to private message me with any other questions.

Hello Mary,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hi, Mary

We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.

Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.

Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.
