Hello Christian!

My name is Dodie and I will be your mentor on wiki. :) I am here to help you with learning about the importance of sourcing and how to input the sources. There are many free sites that we can get this information from. So when you get a free minute, let me know when you are on and we can get to work! :) We'll have tons of fun.

Here is the help index on sources. We add sources to all profiles on WikiTree. Your pre-1700 badge was removed because those are very important peofiles which have lots of ancrstors. As you know, the pre-1700 badge certification points out the importance of those profiles having good sources. Your badge was removed because you are creating lots of pre-1700 profiles with no sources.

A good place up start adding sources is with your ancestors that are less than 200 years old.

Let us know if you need help!

Paula.

Hi Christian,

Your pre-1700 badge was removed. Please do not add it back. Your mentor, Dodie can assist you.

Hi Christian

I see that you just did some work on pre-1700 profiles. That's great! Is there a particular time period, location, or topic you're interested in? Maybe you have some historically-significant ancestors? Let me know. I can help you figure out if there's a project and introduce you to the project leaders.

Just a reminder - part VIII of the Wiki Genealogist Honor Code says: We cite sources. Without sources we can't objectively resolve conflicting information.

Be great to see you add sources for the profiles you've created.

Hello!

I noticed you are working on some of our earlier profiles. I just wanted to let you know that today we're starting to introduce restrictions on who can add and edit profiles of people born before 1500. To edit early profiles, you will need the "Pre-1500 Certified" badge.

To request it, you can go to http://www.wikitree.com/contact/cert/.

If you have questions or comments please post here: http://www.wikitree.com/g2g/211127/would-you-like-to-help-edit-profiles-people-born-before-1500

Thanks!

Hey Christian,

When will you add sources to the profiles you create ??

Thanks,

Guy

Hello Christian,

Thanks for adding profiles to WikiTree. There are reasons behind the eighth point in our Honor Code: "We cite sources. Without sources we can't objectively resolve conflicting information."

A source provides a way to find out more about the person. Showing sources reduces confusion and duplicates.

How Do You Find Sources? offers links to free sources (and a few for subscription). If you can't find a source, try asking about it at the G2G Forum.

The Sources Style Guide shows how to enter sources in the biography.

Please contact me with any questions you have about adding sources to the profiles you manage.

Thanks,

Guy ~ WikiTree Mentor

Hi ,

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.
