Biography
Johannes was born in 1730 [1]. He passed away in 1769 [1].
Jan, as he was known, owned the farm De Ezeljacht in the Langkloof area. By 1773, about eight homesteads had been built in the Long Kloof. The pioneers of the area include men like R. Kamfer (at Kamfer); M. Zondagh (farm Avontuur or Adventure); John Kritzinger on Onzer; Tjaart van der Walt on Warmbad and Jan de Buys on De Ezeljacht.
Jan died suddenly after having severe abdominal pains and convulsions. His son, Coenraad, believed that his mother poisoned his father.
Rumours were also spread that Christina murdered her first husband too as he died under similar circumstances.
