Biography

Félix was born about 1728 in Acadie. [1] [2] [3] He was the son of Joseph Godin & Marie-Madeleine Roy.

He married Marie Rose Roy about 1757, probably in Île St Jean. His first son Félix was baptized at Montmagny in November 1758 (Age: 2 months). He was "ondoyé" at birth (September 1758) by Cocard in Île St Jean. [4]

According to researcher André-Carl Vachon, a group of 9 Acadians left Sainte-Anne-des-Pays-Bas (near present-day Fredericton, New Brunswick) by canoe and reached Montmagny in the province of Québec before 16 November 1758 when Félix Godin was baptized. Among this group were: Félix Godin, Marie-Rose Roy his wife, Félix Godin their son, Joseph and René Godin (Félix's brothers). [6]

He passed away in 1784 (Age: 56) [7][8] [9]

Research Notes

In many Family Trees, Félix is given different parents. He is listed as the son of Jacques Philippe Godin and Marie Anne Bergeron. [10]

No son Félix listed for Jacques Philippe Godin and Marie Anne Bergeron by Karen Theriot Reader citing Stephen White[11], Marcel Walter Landry. [12], or by PRDH. [13]

A marriage dispensation for a second to third degree of kinship was granted between Jean Baptiste Godin (Joseph Godin & Josèphe Gouin) (Joseph is the son of Joseph Godin & Madeleine Roy) and Therese Quessy (Joachim Caissie & Thérèse Godin) (Thérèse Godin is the daughter of Félix Godin & Marie-Rose Roy) on 24 August 1824 in Batiscan shows that Félix was the brother of Joseph Godin married to Josephte Gouin), therefore confirming that he was the son of Joseph Godin and Madeleine Roy. [14] Jean Baptiste and Therese Caissie are first cousins once removed. See their relationship here.

Marie Anne (#6) looks to be the daughter of Felix Godin and Marie Rose Roy, however no records found that confirm this. (PRDH)

The unknown child (#10) who was buried Sep 1773 is Therese Godin or Ursule Godin, twins who were born 10 Sep 1772. One twin was buried 1 Mar 1773 at the age of six months, the other twin was buried 30 Sep 1773 at the age of one year. The father, Felix Gaudet, was listed on the burial records; the children’s names were not.

No records found for Therese Godin (#11) that include the name Bellefontaine, with the single exception of the burial record of her son Joachim Quély when she was listed as Marie Bellefontaine. (PRDH)

Je n'ai trouvé aucune mention à l'effet que Félix, Joseph ou René aient été parrain entre 1760 et 1775.
Je n'ai trouvé aucune transaction notariale concernant Joseph ou René entre 1760 et 1770.
Félix a fait quelques contrats d'achats et de ventes au cours de ces années-là.

Godin-322 and Godin-201 appear to represent the same person because: Similar date of birth. Same date and location of death. Removed Godin-322 from parents Jacques Philippe Godin and Marie Anne Bergeron. No son Félix listed for them by reliable family trees and PRDH.

Godin-806 and Godin-201 appear to represent the same person because: They appear to be the same person. I think the sources for the 1734 BD at Genealogy of Canada appear reasonable (age at marriage and death) so that date should probably be retained unless there are better sources for the 1720 BD.
