Biography

JOSEPH GUEDRY is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana, on Plaque 3-R. He is listed alone.[1]

Joseph Guedry was born about 1735 to Augustin Guédry (abt.1690-aft.1765) and Jeanne Hebert (abt.1701-1767).

Joseph was living with his sister Jeanne and her husband and family in Isle Saint Jean in 1752.[2]

He evidently avoided the expulsions of the Acadians by being captured and imprisoned at Halifax. When the war ended in 1763, the Acadians were released, and about 200 of them followed Joseph Broussard, dit Beausoleil, to Louisiana.

He was found on the April 23, 1777 census at Donaldsonville, Ascension, Louisiana, living with his wife, Marie Dupuis. [citation needed]

He made a will on October 2, 1872, [citation needed] and no further records were found for him. He died some time after that date.[3]

He owns livestock: one pig and three fowls. He is in the colony three years, and has been given rations for that time. The land on which he is settled is situated to the east of the dwelling place of Monsieur de la Borde, treasurer to the colony; it was given to him verbally by Messieurs Desherbiers and Prévost. He has made a good clearing in which he can sow two pecks of oats.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA test-takers in his direct paternal line. Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line: It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:

Hi, Steff, you added

That cat doesn't start until 1867, so he died before the timeframe. Do you want to change the timeframe of the cat, make a new one, or take it off this (and maybe a few other) profiles?

The easy fix was to add Colony to the name, as that cat already exists, but you have to dig deeper in the picker, and I didn't realize that before. If you send me the link to your project suggestions, I can find the other ones I added that need fixing, as I don't remember who they are.

I removed him from Marguerite Picot as his spouse and Olivier as his son. There is a possible duplicate with another Augustin Guedry but he has different parents than this one. He seems to be a blend of Guidry-196 and the other Augustin with different parents.
