Biography

Bessie Hicks was born on August 31, 1892 in Midgic, New Brunswick.[1] She was the eldest of Arthur Albert Hicks and Morinda Wheaton's 8 children. She lived in Sackville, New Brunswick with her family until her marriage. Bessie attended Mount Allison University, where she met her future husband[2]

Bessie married A. Samuel Prowse on Dec 1, 1915[3] at her parents' home in Sackville, New Brunswick.[4] The couple lived Murray Harbour, Prince Edward Island, where their four daughters were born.

After the Depression wiped out the Prowse family business, Sam, Bessie and their children left PEI for New Brunswick in May 1932.[5] Until about 1939, they lived in Albert County, New Brunswick. The family lived above a store that Sam was managing. They subsequently moved to Moncton, New Brunswick, where they lived until Sam's death in 1949.

Bessie died on Jan 31, 1965[6] and was buried in the Hicks family plot in Upper Sackville, New Brunswick.
