Jeanne Catherine Hû / Hué / Hu (Hus dite Paul) was the the eldest daughter of Paul Hue (later Hus / Hû) and Jeanne Baillargeon, born on 6 May 1680 and baptized the following day at the church of Saint-Pierre in Sorel, Canada, Nouvelle-France.
[1][2][3][4][5]
In 1681, Jeanne Catherine (noted as "Jeanne") was with her father Paul (whose surname appeared as Hue but with an accent over the e, as Hué or Huė), along with her mother Jeanne Baillargeon and their first seven children, with property that included a gun, 7 horned animals and 20 arpents (approximately 17 acres) of riverfront land to the east of Saurel (Sorel): [6]
Paul Hué38, Jeanne Baillargeon, sa femme, 26 ; enfants : Louis 11, Antoine 10, Marc 9, Jean Baptiste 7, Jean 5, Pierre 3, Jeanne 1 1/2 ; 1 fusil ; 7 bêtes à cornes ; 20 arpents en valeur.
The family later expanded and although several of Paul and Jeanne's children passed away early (as was not uncommon), nine of them would eventually go on to marrry into families in the Sorel region.
(Note: in many cases indexers "standardized" their surname as Hus in "répertoires" (shown as (std) below) - although original records often reflected other spellings (shown in [brackets] below) - and dit names began in use for many of their children).[5]
Louis Hü [Hú dit Paul] - b abt. 1670, m 1699-06-10 (Marie Angélique NIQUET), d 1733-04-02
Jeanne and Jean had twelve children together from 1704 through 1724, including four daughters and eight sons – four of their sons being born as a pair of twins (Jean and Jacques in 1708, followed by Joseph and Michel in 1710): [8]
Thérèse Lavallée bp. 1704-03-16, (son Jérémie Pierre Lavallée born out-of-wedlock 1731-07-09), d. 1742-08-26
Paul Lavallée bp. 1724-10-01, d. (burial) 1727-02-25
Deaths of Jeanne and her husband
Jeanne's husband Jean Lavallée died on 30 December 1743 - and Jeanne herself passed away three days later on the 2nd of January, 1744. They were each buried the day after their deaths at Sorel, and their records are adjacent – bridging the year 1743-1744. On her burial record Jeanne was noted as Jeanne Hus Paul.[9]
