Biography

Agie, daughter of Jeremias Meebi, was baptized in the Reformed Dutch of Sleepy Hollow (Tarrytown, New York) on 30 August 1745. Jeremias Meebi and Rachel Meebi were recorded as the witnesses/sponsors. [1]

Agye Mebie and Peter Syffer were married in the Sleepy Hollow church on 30 May 1761.[2]

Death: 1825, Westchester, New York, USA

Agye married Petrus1 aka Peter (Son of Johannis b c1700) at Sleepy Hollow Old Dutch Church. they had 6 children, Petrus2 1762, Jeremies 1764 and Anatie 1766 all baptised at ODC Sleepy Hollow (may show as Philipsburg. They then had a further 3 children elsewhere possibly Ossining Westchester being Philip, Elizabeth and John.

Dutch women of this time did not normally use their husbands' last names, and Dutch customs prevailed in much of New York state until 1800 or later. Accordingly, for New Netherland descendants we do not treat the name of a husband as a Current Last Name unless there is evidence (via a contemporary record) that the woman used it. This is why I have removed the name Sypher from the Current Last Name field on this profile.

Also, it is very important that we include the variant spellings for a name in the profile data fields. Unless we do this, a person searching WikiTree for (for example) the name Mabie may not find profiles with the spelling Mebie.
