Isaac Ostrander UEL served with Loyalists during the American Revolution.
Isaac Ostrander was a United Empire Loyalist. UEL Status:Undetermined Date: Undated
Isaac was born prior to 30 May 1725 when he was baptized in the Old Dutch Church of Kingston. His parents were recorded as being Pieter Ostrander Junior and Rachel Dingsman.[1]
He married Elizabeth Meekans on 30 September 1757 at the Reformed Dutch Church of Albany.[2]
Isaac was a farmer in the Helderberg area. His loyalty was to Great Britain during the Revolutionary War. A Revolutionary board in Albany found him to be "a dangerous person and disaffected" who "by his conversation endeavors daily to injure the (revolutionary) cause." He was confined for a time, then paid a one hundred pounds fine and released for good behavior. It is possible that he and his family might have moved to Schoharie and Normanskill during the war. Isaac joined the British forces at Auchgara. After the war Isaac's family settled in Canada. Lots 70, 93, and 116 were owned by Isaac Ostrander in Thorold township, Welland County, Ontario, on a lane called "Holland Row" because of the number of Dutch inhabitants who lived there. "Holland Row" extended eastward into Lundy's Lane where the Canadian and British forces turned back the invading American Army in the War of 1812.[3]
