She married first, John Lothrop, III on December 15, 1669, at New London, where in a dual wedding performed by Commissioner Daniel Wetherell, John's sister Elizabeth was simultaneously married to Ruth's brother Isaac. They had eight known children. They had removed to Wallingford, Connecticut, by 1678, the year their daughter Elizabeth was born. John died there August 26, 1688, Æt 44. On February 19, 1689-90, Ruth drew lot No. 4 in the distribution of that date.[1][2][3][5][6][7]
She married second, February 12, 1689, at Wallingford, Abraham Doolittle, Jr., as his second wife. There were no children from this marriage.[3][6][8]
At a session of the New Haven County Court, held June 11, 1690, an inventory of the estate of John Lothrop, late of Wallingford, deceased, intestate, was presented and approved for record. The widow "desireing to renounce ye administration (shee beinge again marryed)" administration was granted to Nathaniel Royce "her own brother". One-third of the personal estate was given to the widow absolutely, with the life use of one-third of the real estate, and £5-10 was allowed her for bringing up the youngest child. The remainder of the property was ordered set to the children, the eldest son to have a double share, the sons to receive their shares at 21 and the daughters at 18.[3]
How long Ruth (Royce), widow of John Lothrop and wife of Abraham Doolittle, lived after the date of the above court entry is not known. It is known that Abraham Doolittle married for a third time on June 5, 1695, so Ruth must have died before then.[3][9]
