Biography

Birth and parents : Charles was born about 1699 in Germany, the son of Lucas Schalley and Ann Catharina (unknown).

Emigration : Carel Shalle came to American aboard the Robert and Alice, arriving from Rotterdam to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 3 September 1739 and taking oath the same day at the Court House of Philadelphia.[1] Only males over aged sixteen appeared on the register, and Carl is believed to have been accompanied by his family, including his son Luke. Carl’s brother, Johann Ludwig Schailly, came over on the same ship four years later, accompanied by three boys, Hans Adam, Johannes and Christian, who were all aged over sixteen and whose names were spelled Shally right under Ludwig’s.

Land and tax records : Charles Shally warranted 100 acres on Quitipohilla Hill in Lebanon Twp in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania on 13 May 1741.[2] His name appeared on some early tax records (see following).

Charles Shally was naturalized in 1761 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

He is recorded on Oyer and Terminer Court Papers in Lancaster County in May 1768.[3]

Death and burial : An unsourced Findagrave entry records that Charles died in 1781 in Lebanon County, PA, but that his burial site is unknown.[4]

Hint FindAGrave - Multiple profiles link to same grave ID Help → FindAGrave: 132808020

Shalle-1, Schalle-2 and Schally-4 all use the same Find a Grave source, thus all three profiles should have the same birth, death dates and burial location. All the biographies use 1699. Shalle-1 and Schally-4 have nearly identical biographies.

Birthdate on this profile should be 1699 according to the sources listed and the Biography. I am correcting this accordingly.

Hi Cathy,

Now that a merge has been completed between Schalle-2 and Schally-4 the resulting profile appears to be a perfect match for this profile. And both profiles have a son - Johann Peter - set to merge as well.

Do you have any further objections to the merge or can we proceed?

Dave
