Hi, Philip!

Congratulations on becoming a Family Member of WikiTree! How excellent! I'm a volunteer greeter, here to answer any questions you may have about WikiTree.

Our New Member How-To pages can help you get started adding profiles or just learning your way around.

Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

You mentioned that you don’t know much about your family tree yet. I assume you are new to genealogy. No problem! Every genealogist is a beginner at some point. Take your time, keep track of sources, and ask questions. Check here for tips.

Welcome to the community! I hope your WikiTree journey will be as fruitful and enjoyable as mine has been.

Thank you Pip for the nice "hello". I do have a family tree put together in my retirement. I retired in 1991 from teaching. I am trying to understand the "profile" and the several levels. My wife and I live in the Buffalo, NY area. I did have a DNA test done when I was a customer of Ancestry.com. I am interested in a "new" start to work on my tree with Wikitree. I am sorry to say that I cannot trust information from some of the internet sources that have errors in their files and thereby spread bad information out to those families pulling their family tree together. I agree with the requirement of having sources for each member of the family tree. Best Wishes,

Philip E Utter.

You are most welcome, Philip. From what you wrote above, you seem to be just the kind of member that WikiTree needs more of, one who doubts to proliferation of bad family lines based on hearsay and bad sources. I wish the you best. If you ever have a question, I'll be glad to help.

Kind regards,

Pip

Hello Peggy.... Does Wikitree have reports to be printed as I add more ancestors?

If your answer is "yes", how do I find the report area. I am working with a group of ancestors that has grown to 216 in size. I am working with a humble used computer and have in the past printed reports and then taken the "master" sheets to a print shop for printing on 24" or 36" paper stock. I am trying to share my genealogy with my children, 5 in number, while my health is strong. Bye for now.......Phil Utter

Hi Phil,

I think the kind of thing you're interested in can be found on the family tree tab of your profile. Click on the tab or use this link: https://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/Utter-Family-Tree-608

There you will find a number of options for printing your family tree. If there are other things you want to print, let me know.

Hope that helps!

..(4/3/2021).... Thank you Peggy for the hints you are sending my way !!

I have another question...(and I am reading the help units I find on Youtube..) How do I add my second child...( I did get my first child in the database ) but I am going around and around trying to slide the name of my second child in the proper place ?? Is there a printable [tutorial] on Wikitree I could do a look up on new words and actions? ..Thanks......Phil

Glad those hints are helping, Phil!

The new member how-to pages are the best place to get written instructions. Here is the page on adding family members.

If you tell me a little more about where in the process the problem happens and what if any error messages you are getting, that would help figure out what the issue is. Also, be sure you are logged into WikiTree when trying to add new profiles. Sometimes you will get logged out and not realize it!
