Kathy Wingate is the daughter of Milton Asa Wingate, B. 1915 and Mattie E. Whitlock, B. 1917. Both lived in West Columbia, SC in the same neighborhood. My father was a musician, who could play any instrument with strings as a teenager. The story goes that he could make more money playing for dances on the weekend, than his father made in a week, at the mill....His mother died soon after childbirth, when he was 10 years old. He had 4 sisters...and another after his father remarried. Milton was a Musician in the University of SC orchestra, and performing in the Army band during WWII, serving in Africa and Italy. After the war, he performed as a professional musician with several bands on the weekends, and worked for Lexington County Savings and Loan.
