Hi An-Mari, I restored the bio of Batenhorst-1. { {The German Roots} } sticker does not apply to older profiles (Germany did not exist then; what existed was the Holy Roman Empire - the flag is a modern day flag and the sticker is mainly used for profiles of 19th and 20th century German emigrés to the colonies. If the German Project template is used, then the project should als be co-active manager.

Welcome, and I hope you will find this very excited
Hi An-Mari,

Thanks for having a big heart and adopting the Orphaned Profiles. This After Adopting Orphans FAQ explains the special attention those profiles need.

Let me know if you have any questions on how to find and record sources, merge duplicates, clean up gedcom biographies, and interpret the Suggestions report. I'm here to help!

An-Mari, you have to stop creating duplicates based on tertiary sources such as GENI. We have rejected the merge proposals for Labuschagne-1045 and Bezuidenhout-969. You'll have to recycle them, using the same LNAB for not yet existing profiles on WikiTree.

Hi An-Marie, I see that you have been creating some pre-1700 duplicates. Many / most of the South African genealogical lines and profiles of the eigtheenth and seventeenth periods (and earlier) have already been made. Many have also been validated with primary sources.

A few handy links to get you started:

  1. Getting Started
  2. Adding to WikiTree.
  3. What are duplicates? Why should and how can they be avoided?
  4. G2G Help - for any questions you may have ....

Perhaps you would like to join the South African Roots Project ? Besides useful sources, there help pages that are handy for newcomers to learn more about WikiTree and how everything works around here.

Hi An-Mari,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects which coordinate them is essential.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus, whether time period, location, or topic. Read the goals and tasks of the project and join if it is a good fit.

Add the project tag to your Following list to be kept up to date on any activity that occurs for that project.

Can't find what you're looking for? Let me know, and I can make some suggestions! :-)

Hi An-Mari

You are quite right. Frans Engelbertus Marx (1838) had a son Frans Engelbertus Marx (1865). You can find all his children in the Geni world tree. https://www.geni.com/people/Frans-Marx/2086477. Feel free to add the son to WikiTree so you can link up your family.

Hello Again,

You've been a member of WikiTree for about a week now so I thought I would check in to see how it's going. Have the How-Tos been helpful or left you with questions?

I want to help! Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page or send me a private message. Sometimes links don't work in emails. If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile. The links will work from there.

PS Good work so far! Have you noticed on your ancestor profiles on bottom right is "Research" where you can get sources and more information? Give it a try!
