Hi,

It’s Germany Project check-in time again! Please respond within the next 2 weeks and let me know if you’re still interested in participating with the Project. Remember, the only requirements for membership in the Germany Project are (1) that you work on at least one German profile every 6 months and (2) that you respond to this check-in.

Since you’re not working with one of our Sub-projects or Teams yet, please look at our main Project page for a full list and let me know which team you’d like to join.

Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. In your response, we welcome any feedback you may want to give on the project (what you like about it, what you’d like to see us do, what we could change, etc.)

If you ever have any questions, please ask. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

I look forward to hearing from you soon!

We really appreciate your contributions on WikiTree, and thank you for all your hard work. If you have any questions, please ask. We would also love to hear any feedback you may have for the project.

Yes, i want to stay in. Not working on a subproject or team yet and life is busy so not too much time for genealogy right now, just occasional week ight or weekend research. I did reply to a question you asked back in April, but didnt see a follow up from anyone:

"Thanks for asking, on my paternal side, Carback's are supposed to be from Ulm, Germany, but i don't have proof. Back to late 1700s so far shows in MD, USA. On my paternal side, Ludwig Ohrendorff (Orndorff is current spelling in USA) was born in Westphalia, Pruden Germany and died around 1710 in Buschen, Nassau Siegan, Germany. Apparently born in Hof Ohrendorff, likely serfs. "

Hi again,

I sent you a message a couple of weeks ago on behalf of the Germany Project and have not yet heard back from you. I hope you are well!

If I don’t hear back from you by the end of April, I will assume you no longer wish to be a member of the Germany Project and I’ll go ahead and remove you from our member roster. You are, of course, welcome to rejoin at any time via our G2G sign-up post.

Best wishes,

Traci ~ Germany Project co-leader

Hi Traci, missed the earlier message, i do want to stay in the Germany project. I could also use some pointers in how to try to get help in finding Carback ancestors from Germany. I have hints and info from ancestry, but not getting help here.

Hi Ron

As you have been a member of WikiTree for a few weeks now, I thought I would check in to see how you are getting on with the site.

Has the New Member How-To been helpful, or left you with any questions?

I am here to help with any problems or queries you may have. To contact me, be sure to use the "reply" link below this comment so that I will be notified. You can also click my name to send a private message, or post a comment, on my profile page.

Sometimes links don't work in emails.  If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile. The links will work from there.

Wendy ~ WikiTree Greeter

Hi Wendy, to be honest, i am pretty computer savvy, and i didnt find the help info very helpful. The new member info was ok, but i dont think there is enough layman training type verbiage to help a new person build their tree and do research. you just need a single page with simple how to's and then links to othe complex stuff. Also the A-Z categories for help just didnt help that much. As an example, someone asked to merge a profile, but it took me a while to find out how to merge. Again, i am pretty savvy, so i think it just could be made much simpler with less clicks to find the info a newbie would want to know.

One specific area i dont really like is the commenting and replying back and forth in this way. Its hard to engage direct, needs a chat function, an easier way to email folks, etc.

Have a good end of week and weekend, Ron

Thank you for the feedback, Ron. We do have other guides we send to those who are new to genealogy, but we don’t always know who needs those, unless they mention it when they join. I will take your point about merges up with the Greeter team to see if there is some way we can help new users on that front.

Re the comments/replies, you can always send private messages which go as emails. I conduct many email exchanges with members via private messages and email exchanges.

Take care, be safe, have fun! Wendy

Hello Ron,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Pre-1700 ancestors can be shared by many descendants, so collaboration is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Sources are very important here on Wikitree, especially on Pre-1700 profiles. It is how we show where we got the info and help others find it too. Find out more about sources here and more detailed info here.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.

If you have any questions, click reply below this message and I will get back to you.

Thanks for signing the Honor Code, Ron I hope you discover as much about your family as I have about mine over the last several years.

I'm guessing that Cheryl has already shared the tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process created by one of our mentors. Just in case, I am sharing again because I found it very helpful.

If you have any questions about how WikiTree works, let us know by using the "reply" link under our comments or by clicking our names to visit our profiles. From there you can leave a comment or send a private message.
