Hello Everyone,
I am back after an unexpected long absence. I do not have as much time and energy as I did. If you have left a message or change I will try to locate your message and respond. Thank You all for your time, energy, and skills. If you have made a change I highly doubt I will object, and I am grateful for your hard work. Wiki Tree is a challenge. Thank You all.
I am always willing to receive suggestions, comments, and help. I am an old school genealogist trying to figure out this new world. I am slowly recreating my family tree with sourcing after computer issues, Ancestry.com screw ups etc. Patience Please. Thank You for your patience as I try to learn WikiTree.

I sent you a check-in message ten days ago about the 1776 Project to ask you about your past and continued involvement but have not yet heard back from you. Do you still want to be in the project?
If I don’t hear from you by the same time next week I’ll assume that you’ve moved on to other things but you’re most welcome to re-join the project at any time.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Best wishes,

Thank You. I have communicated with Christine and have accepted her task it is low tech enough I think I can do it. Thank You. Now I just need to figure out how to put myself on the task list. Debbie Freeman i.e. Freeman-16550
Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines laid out on that page.

Thank You. I am out of practice, and still learning. I hope it was OK to add the citation and notes about the will? I admit some of the will was a bit difficult to read, Another pair of eyes would be great.
I will spend some time this weekend to study this pre 1700 profiles. I decided not to add to WikiTree the other children mentioned in the will. Daughter Mary (Patterson) Elder is my interest. She could be the wife of Thomas Elder.
Hopefully the Pre 1700 Profiles do not require a lot of tech knowledge.
If it does can I just add a note on the page under messages?
Thank You, Debbie Freeman
If it helps -
William Patterson - D 1745 - WikiTree - Patterson-5903 - William Patterson of Paxton, Lancaster Co., PA Will Book A, page 104 - Date 23 Sept 1745, LDS Microfilm # 21354, Image 131 of 589
I added a simple basic bio, FAG citation with a memorial template, and a citation for the will. You can look at the profile and in edit to see how I added this all into the bio. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Patterson-5903
I suggest you join a project like the England Project and the Orphans Trail or the Ireland Project. Both project list resources for finding sources.
Hope this helps, David
I hope to reply to your message tomorrow if my back pain has lessened so I can operate well again. I have some Gregory and Wilson's in my tree. Ruth
If parents are living then you want to go out one more generation to grandparents on your father and mother's side and it appears you have that information.
I am also requesting to be a member on your trusted list so can work with you. You will be doing the major work but easier to see and make recommendations to you. Cousin Alice
I think I added you to my page, and to the Elder/Young Profiler pages?? If I screwed it up please contact me. I am new to WikiTree. I tried to add the immediate family tree family but does not allow without dates. I do not feel comfortable with that. Etta (Young) Freeman is my great grandmother, daughter of Mary Francis (Elder) Young, daughter of Samuel Elder and Elizabeth (Miller) Elder. Samuel Elder is the son of Elizabeth (Coulter) Elder, daughter of Samuel Prettyman Coulter. It still needs more sourcing though. Hope this makes sense. Cousin Debbie Freeman. I have my Ancestry (com) tree public just look for Preston DePark Elder it should pop up. It starts with Jan.
Thank-you for joining the family tree here at WikiTree. If I can be of assistance, feel free to reach out.

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.
Thank You for checking in with me. I do appreciate it. The wiki part is a steep learning curve. The genealogy part just needs to be brushed up on my part. Time is of course a issue. I try to get to the website when I can. Right now I try to find if my ancestor already has a page then add my ancestry to link my ancestors to the mutual ancestor. Instead of uploading my GEDCOM. I make contact with the WikiTree cousin. I am hoping you might know a preferred example of what WikiTree ancestor website would like. Right now I add sources, and then when I can figure out how to WikiTree it I will cleanup. Hope that is alright? On sources how does WikiTree want to handle secondary sources? County History book, etc. I am a detail person so I am always grateful for detailed examples, etc. Thank You for your message. Newby WikiTree user, Debbie Freeman
If you or someone on WikiTree who has some time could take a look at the Ancestor Profiles I have created or adopted? It is the basic outline, I will add more sourcing later. Constructive, Helpful feedback would be apricated. thank You. Newby, Debbie Freeman
Please check your email for a detailed answer on your question, and examples of sourcing. Thank you so much for asking, and I hope I have answered your question.
Have a wonderful New Year.

You are now a Family Member -- your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together! Start with the New Member How-To pages — they are really useful as you add profiles and learn your way around.
Don't worry, we were all new to WikiTree once but this is a collaborative site and people are happy to help you if you get stuck. You can ask any of the Greeters for help along the way or post your questions on the G2G Forum. Take your time and I am sure you will be up to speed in no time.
Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.
If you have any questions about how WikiTree works, use the reply link below this comment (on your profile) to let me know. I am happy to help! If I can't answer, I will help you find someone who can.

PS If you add your surname and other surnames/locations you are researching to your tags, you can connect to other members researching those names/places. The more of these clickable tags you add (20 max.) that include surnames, locations, periods of history or other genealogical interests, the more connections you will make and maybe find a few cousins! To add tags, use this link. This page will help you learn more about tags.
This can wait for after Thanksgiving. For the life of me I can't figure out how to add a tag. On one side of my tree the family lived in Wayne Co., IL for generations. I would like to tag that location. It seems to already exist on WikiTree, so I would not want to duplicate it. Thank You, Debbie Freeman
Peggy is off duty right now, but I can help with this: to add tags, go to this link: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Tags#What_are_Tags.3F. Once you're there, click on the first green sentence and it will take you to your own page of tags (full or empty).
As for the location tag, I would start with "Wayne Co., Illinois," and see what happens.
Hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving,
Claire ~ WikiTree Greeter
Well I did the honor code and upgraded. I am trying to uphold it. I created and tried to make a few People (Ancestor) profiles. I hope the admin in charge of Henry Calvin Williams did not mind. I knew who Henry Calvin Williams (already existed profile) married, and their daughter (my ancestor) and his wives parents. When I tried to add the sources they disappeared somehow when I finished editing. I will try to learn again on how to added sources another day. Sigh. Learning curve is high. Thank You Debbie Freeman
Hang in there! You have successfully added the spouse and child for this profile. When you are adding sources to the biography text box, be sure to hit Save.
Let me know how you do on your next try.
Peggy

Thank You for your message. I am sure I will need help after Thanksgiving. If I understand WikiTree so far. For the next few days I am going to watch the webinars, read the help pages. Try to locate my ancestors pages, contact the person connected to those pages. Follow my ancestors pages ? Locate my physical sources and contact the admin on those pages to learn what to do about sourcing. It looks like we do not add the scans of the sources probably because of copyright laws? Thank You, Debbie Freeman
Sounds like a good plan!
When you come across your ancestors' profiles, you can ask the profile manager to be on the "Trusted List" this will add the name to your watchlist. If there happens to be no current profile manager, you can "adopt" the profile and become the manager.
Yes, you can only upload images (including scans) that you are the copyright holder of or are copyright free. This is a tricky area but you can cite paper copies.
Drop me a note anytime. Enjoy your Thanksgiving!
Peggy
