David was born in Pittsburgh and moved to Kansas City with his parents in early 1983. He attended the University of Kansas for several years, before moving to Phoenix to work for Reality Simulations, Inc. He joined Precedence Studios / Precedence Entertainment and became a partner, and designed or co-designed several successful collectible card games. While in Phoenix, he received an Associates degree from Mesa Community College, then transferred to Arizona State University where he double-majored in Finance and Economics. After one year as an Assistant Bank Examiner with the FDIC, he moved to San Diego and went to work for The Upper Deck Company, as a Product Manager. He worked on trading cards and trading card games for many different products including Yu-Gi-Oh!, Disney, Marvel and DC Comics, and the World of Warcraft, among others. While at Upper Deck, he received an MBA from California State University, San Marcos. In 2006, he married Regan Norris. From 2007-2012 he attended the University of California, Irvine where he obtained a Ph.D. in Economics. Currently (as of 2014), he has a son and a daughter, and is an Assistant Professor of Economics at Whittier College.

My great-grandfather was convinced we were descended from Pocahontas, but due to records lost in a courthouse fire I gather he could never definitively prove it.
