My name is Bethan Clark. I am a Wikipedian with a focus on researching and publishing biographies of women who aren't there yet, but should be. I discovered Jane Wallas Penfold through writing Lady Cave's biography (which is going to be published on Wikipedia soon).
I was wondering if you would be able to give me permission to use the portrait of Penfold to feature at the top of her Wikipedia article, please? It would make a great addition.
If you plan on making more changes to pre-1700 English profiles you will need to make sure that you add a source for your information at the same time as you make the change. I have reversed the changes that you made to Robert Cromwell MP (abt.1565-1617) as you included no sources to justify the changes that you made. If you would like to learn more about finding reliable English sources we would love you to join the England Project and take part in our Orphan Trail. Information is here. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:England All the best, Elizabeth - England Project Leader
Just to let you know that, on behalf of the England Project, I'm looking through your profiles and adding the full county name and "England" to the locations where appropriate. This will make it easier for other Wikitreers to search and find them.
I'm interested to see that you have Thurston Bilcliffe in your tree. Are you a connection? I woud be interested in exchanging information as I am researching the Bilcliffes, before 1700 only at the moment.
And a BIG welcome to WikiTree! We are so glad to have you in the community and hope that it becomes a vital part of your family history journey. New features and tools are always being added to improve the experience. If something comes up that sparks a question or causes any confusion please do not hesitate to ask. Our Help pages are a great resource, too, or post questions, comments or suggestions on the WikiTree Facebook page or WikiTree on Twitter. Also feel free to e-mail me directly (and privately) at crystal at wikitree.com.
Hi Trevor, I did contact you once before. My G G G Grandfather was William Penfold who was a wine trader who went to Madeira in 1802. He started business with a Robert Wallas and later Henry Vietch the Consul of Madiera. He was a friend of Queen Adeliade who stayed in his house and gave my G G Grandmother a diamond brooch. My G G Grandmother was Jane Wallas Penfold who painted and had published a book in 1843 on flowers and fruit in Madeira a copy of which is in Natural History Museum and copies have sold in Christies for around 3000 pounds. She married a William Withey Mathews and their daughter was my G Grandmother. I CANNOT find any history on William Penfold how ever hard I try..we know his wife Sarah Gilbert's father Thomas Gilbert was a good friend of James (Hali)Burton.
