Hi Janet,

I am still learning how to use the unique features of WikiTree. After reading and trying to use the site, I still feel blocked in my efforts to grow my tree. Specifically,... while beginning to add a few people to my tree I realized that one ancestor already exists and was created by someone a few years ago. The two people are: Dowlin-12 and Dowlin-40 (created by me). Dowlin-12 is missing some info that I have already added to Dowlin-40, so I attempted to contact the manager of Dowlin-12 but got no reply (I think she is too busy or unaware of my request). I also attempted to merge the two people, but failed because I am not on the trusted list. Do you have any helpful advice for me?

-Jon

Hi John

The current profile manager does not appear to have be active on wikitree for a number of years. She may have changed her email address the best you can do is follow the https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Unresponsive_Profile_Managers

I have set them as a merge, so you will receive an email shortly. If you approve the merge then this may be completed in several weeks if you get no response based on the unresponsive PM

I have added some data to https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Dowlin-12 as this will be the final profile once the merge is complete.

Hi John

Thanks  for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz

As Pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects coordinating them is essential. Please ensure there is a location and that the location data matches dates of profiles, avoid abbreviations, add citations & links for sources to support the data, please review these pages   Reliable Pre-1700 Sources  and   Help Sources   for Pre-1700 I noted you have used an Unsourced family tree as a source, which is not, please amend this on profiles as per the changes made to https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Baynard-196 Thanks

The United States Project and its subprojects for each state, would be of interest. Adding the tag UNITED_STATES will connect you  Follow this link for  your tags There is a subproject for Maryland

Explore Pre-1700 Projects list to find one that fits your research focus.

Hi

Thank you for adding your DNA Test information to your profile on WikiTree. Your information will be propagated to the profiles of your parents and your ancestors within about 24 hours of being added. It will also propagate to the profiles of the descendants of your ancestors, so they may see your information under the heading "DNA Connections" just as you can see theirs.

Getting started with DNA outlines how to proceed to use your DNA test information on WikiTree and DNA is a link to a collection of links about WikiTree's many features involving DNA.

The DNA Connections list on your profile will provide a visual way for you to find potential relatives on WikiTree who have also added their DNA test information. Using DNA tools at sites like GEDMatch.com, if you find a relative that matches your DNA sufficiently and you have genealogical sources for the intermediate relationships, you can mark the specific parental relationships back to the most recent ancestor that you both share as "confirmed with DNA." For details, guidance, and examples of how to properly document DNA confirmations, see DNA confirmation.

To be able to add profiles, you will need to upgrade (there is no cost). You can do this from your Upgrade page. Just answer the five questions, e.g. who you want to communicate with, if others can see your family tree, what surnames, locations, or topics interest you, etc, and click on the green box that says "Upgrade”.

Upgrading just means you will become a Family Member with the ability to work on your immediate ancestors to help us achieve our goal of joining all individual family trees into one global family tree.

I hope this helps! If you have any problems, let me know.

Take care
