Biography

I was born in 1956 in Montreal. I am the daughter of Gary Howell from Gaspe Town and Silvia Stanley from Roseville, Gaspe. He passed away when I was two years old so I was raised by my step father Raymond Sinnett who was also from Gaspe Town. Our family spent the odd summer in Gaspe. I remember walking down the unpaved road with not a car In sight. A fellow who was walking towards me asked if I was Silvia's girl. Coming from a big city like Montreal where no one really knows anyone else, that impressed me. My grandma would write with the news from Gaspe which my mom would tell me who the different people were and how we were related. She once commented that "we are related to half of Rosebridge" (Gaspe). That comment stuck with me. I was hooked. I wanted to know more about all these families I was related to. My mom tell me stories that the old people would tell about Guernsey, Channel Islands. Again the majority of the Rosebridge families had ties to Guernsey. Living in Montreal in the 60's there were many electricity black outs. That was my parents opportunity to get us kids around the table to tell Gaspisian Ghost stories And Tales of Gaspe. So as you can image I am having a lot of fun connecting all these families.

When I was eighteen I worked in South Hampton, England at the Utility Company for seven months where we talked with clients from lower England. Now that I am researching my husband's family it really helps that I have an idea of where to begin.

In the 1992 my mother, son and I took a trip back to Rosebridge to do some genealogy. I was fortunate to sit with a second cousin who was doing research on the Rosebridge families and I was given a copy of the church registry that she had. In those days that was a treasure. I was able to interview Uncles, great Uncles, Aunts and cousins. I was able to visit the family cemetery, church and school where I could piece together the lives of these people I was researching.

Here it is fourteen years later and I am to digging out all my notes, pictures and books. How great it is to be able to sit at home with my IPad to do my research rather than Treaking down to the library for hours at a time.

Happy Researching Everyone.
