DNA. The unknown spouse of Jean Gaudet, married around 1622 had two daughters: Francoise and Marie. The Mothers of Acadia Maternal DNA project is conducting ongoing research to verify their origins. In 2010, Stephen White reported Francoise and Marie Gaudet had a J1b2 haplogroup. I don't know the details re how many of her descendants were tested to support this report. Ongoing test results are also reported here. As of May 2014, 10 descendants of Francoise and 9 descendants of Marie have consistently reported a J haplogroup, indicating European origins.

Research notes

Translation to English:
Stephen White notes written by Archange Godbout extract published in 1960 by French-Canadian Genealogical Society which shows that Jean Gaudet, 59 years old in 1727, therefore born about 1668, who is married with Marie Daussy, can not be the same Jean Gaudet that this is already in Canada for several years and married to Nicole Colleson in 1668.

Hello Project France!

I'm checking in from the Unknown Team at the Profile Improvement Project and would like to ask you to update this profile to conform with the current naming standards for Unknown profiles. In this case, that means changing the LNAB to Unknown and moving Inconnu to the OLN or CLN field. The reason has to do with the way that some of the data management takes place for WikiTree. You can see the standard here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Name_Fields#Last_Name_at_Birth

Thank you all for a profile that shows so much attention to detail!

Hi all,

Should the genealogiequebec.info image be disconnected from this profile? It appears to be unsourced user-contributed content (so not a reliable source for a pre-1700 profile) and appears to contain incorrect information regarding her name.

posted by Rick Peterson
The genealogiequebec.info website has a copyright notice, so the image should definitely be removed.

A note should be added to the profile, with a link to genealogiequebec.info (http://genealogie.quebec/info/index.php?no=11633) and a clear explanation that their information, as of today, is unsourced and incorrect.

Hi all,

I believe the most recent 2 changes to this profile (unknown first spouse of Jean Gaudet) changing the name in the data/bio to "Marie Francoise Daussy" need to be undone. See my answer on this G2G question: https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1056957/can-someone-french-roots-project-help-change-last-name-birth, which is based on the existing Research Notes/comments here and the related discussion on her husband Jean's profile: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Gaudet-21.

Agree, I'v undone the changes. Thanks for the heads up!

I am wondering if this is not Nicole Coleson (Colleson) born on June 11, 1612, in Loudun, Vienne, France. died in 1690 in Nova Scotia, Canada

Christy, Stephen White identified this woman as different from Nicole Coleson who also married Jean Gaudet. The unknown spouse had three children with Jean, then Nicole had another. He married the first wife in about 1622 and then married Nicole in 1652.

BTW Nicole was born in about 1607 based on two census records. Click on Jean Gaudet and you will see her profile attached to him. Cindy

Unfortunately, neither "US and International Marriage records" nor any of the contributors sending emails to Gen Qc are considered reliable sources for pre-1700. We'd need to know where there people took their information so we could track it down and see for ourselves. See https://www.wikitree.com/quiz/pre_1700, question 4.

This is meant to be the profile of the unknown spouse of Jean Gaudet, not Marie D'Aussy. It seems like incorrect edits were made today. I'll look into it.

Would Marie's last name not be Daussey or D'aussy? I've tried to change her last name of birth, but there is no edit button for that category. Has it been decided that her last name will remain "Unknown"?
