Biography

Father Sir Ralph de Stafford, 1st Earl Stafford, 2nd Lord Stafford, Seneschal of Aquitaine, Chief Justice of Chester & Flint[1] b. 24 Sep 1301, d. 31 Aug 1372

Mother Margaret de Audley[2] b. c 1322, d. 7 Sep 1349

Joan de Stafford was born circa 1339 at of Stafford, Staffordshire, England.[3]

She married Sir John Cherleton, 3rd Lord Cherleton, Lord Powis, son of Sir John de Cherleton, 2nd Lord Cherleton of Powis and Maud de Mortimer; They had 2 sons (John, 4th Lord Cherleton; & Sir Edward, 5th Lord Cherleton). He had an illegitimate daughter by an unknown mistress.[4]

Joan de Stafford married Sir Gilbert Talbot, 3rd Lord Talbot, son of Sir Richard Talbot, 2nd Lord Talbot & Lord of Mar, Justice of the Peace for Gloucestershire & Herefordshire and Elizabeth Comyn, circa 7 February 1377; 2nd marriage for both.[5]

Joan de Stafford died circa 2 August 1397.[6]

Richardson (Royal Ancestry) has six known children of Ralph de Stafford by Margaret de Audley; (in order) Ralph de Stafford (married Maud of Lancaster), Hugh de Stafford, KG, Elizabeth de Stafford (married 1st Fulk le Strange, 2nd John de Ferrers, 3rd Reynold Cobham), Beatrice de Stafford (married 1st Maurice Fitz Maurice, 2nd Thomas de Roos, 3rd Richard de Burley, KG), Joan de Stafford (married 1st John de Cherleton, 2nd Gilbert Talbot), Katherine de Stafford (married John de Sutton). Richardson has two children of Ralph de Stafford by Katherine Hastang; Margaret de Stafford (married John de Stafford) and Joan de Stafford (married Nicholas de Beek).
