Thomas Newhall immigrated to Lynn, Massachusetts from Sherington, Buckinghamshire, England soon after Thomas' youngest child was baptized in England in July 1637.[1] Newhall family history reports he arrived around 1630 and that his son Thomas was the first male child born at Lynn. This has been shown to be myth as it doesn't fit any of the known facts.[2] Whether Thomas and family arrived at the same time as his brother Anthony[3] is not known but Anthony was in Salem before Thomas. Both brothers participated in the land division in Lynn in 1638. His sister Elizabeth Farrington and her family arrived in 1635 aboard the Hopewell. He may have been born in 1583 per a merged-in profile.
Proof of the relationship between Thomas and Anthony as brothers is found in a deposition in 1683 when his son Thomas Newhall, aged about 50, testified on 10 November 1683, that two lots of 30 acres each were laid out "unto my Unkle Anthony Newhall and my Father Thomas" which were undivided, and "the said Lotts are now lying in the Township of Redding."[4]
For many years his wife's maiden name was thought to be either Wood or Woodard. The question was settled in The American Genealogist in 1998 proving her maiden name as Woodland and providing marriage data. They married on June 13, 1618 at Sherington. These same records document the baptisms of their seven children establishing an emigration date of not earlier than the summer of 1637 when his youngest child, Mary was baptized in England and by 1638 when Thomas and his brother Anthony participated in the land division at Lynn of that year.[1] [5]

It appears his parents should be removed and an Unknown Newhall added to connect Thomas, Anthony and their sister Elizabeth Newhall.
Thanks, Vic
