William Power Keating Trench, 1st Earl of Clancarty was born on 23 June 1741. He was the son of Richard Trench and Frances Power. He married Anne Gardiner, daughter of Rt. Hon. Charles Gardiner and Florinda Norman, on 30 October 1762.
He died on 27 April 1805 at age 63 at Ireland. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Galway [Ireland] between 1768 and 1797. He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Colonel Bagshaw's Regiment of Foot. He held the office of Sheriff of County Kilkenny in 1777. He was Colonel of the 1st Connaught Provincial Regiment between 1781 and 1783.
He was created 1st Baron Kilconnel of Garbally, co. Galway [Ireland] on 25 November 1797. He was created 1st Viscount Dunlo of Dunlo and Ballinasloe, in the Counties of Galway and Roscommon [Ireland] on 3 January 1801. He was created 1st Earl Clancarty, co. Cork [Ireland] on 11 February 1803
