Biography

Kenneth Wood was born in 1951, , in Edmond, Oklahoma. The last of 6 children born to Floyd and Ruby (Whitlow) Wood. My Wood family has been in Oklahoma since the Run of 1889 when my Great-Grandfather and Grand father Homesteaded land in Logan County, Oklahoma. Before homesteading they lived in Kansas for 10 years having come down from Illinois in 1879. My Grandfather, Edwin William Wood was born in 1870, in Illinois and was a Farmer and an inventor. He has 3 patents that I have found and I've been told of others. My Great-grandfather, William Chauncey Wood, is one of my more interesting ancestors. He was born in 1831,' in Stockbridge, Vermont. Moved back to Massachusetts around 1845 where his father, Chauncey Wood died in 1847, Wm C. moved to Wethersfield, Illinois around 1855. He joined the Grand Army of the Republic in 1861 where he served until discharged in 1864. He re-enlisted in 1864 and was wounded Nov, 29, 1864 at the battle of Spring Hill, TN. He was again discharged in May of 1865. He was a Brickmaker before and after the war, even though he had lost a leg as a result of his wound. He was married, in 1865 in Illinois, to Martha Abbie Cook, born, 1837 in Boston MA., with a possible connection to Francis Cooke of the Mayflower. Chauncey Wood was born in 1786 in Brookfield, Massachusetts the 3rd child of Eli and Asaneth (Bragg) Wood. He married 1st, Hannah Prouty and they had 6 children in Brookfield, MA. He married 2nd, Sally Collins and they had 4 children, in Stockbridge, VT with Wm C. being the second. Eli Woods was a revolutionary soldier born in 1753, in Hartford, Wethersfield, Connecticut., 1st born of John and Hepzibah (Beckley) Woods. Eli's birth record has an "s" on his name but his marriage record does not. John Woods was born in 1728, in Farmington, Hartford Co. Connecticut. He is also a revolutionary soldier. His Father is listed as Elexander Woods. I have found 4 names (spellings) for John's father. Elexander, Alexander, Elixidon, and Elixider. Due to the handwritten script of the time, the latter two could just be bad transposes. Elexander is believed to be Scottish so with a Scottish brogue Alexander might be pronounced as Elexander.
