Biography

I was born in Healdsburg Hospital, Healdsburg, Sonoma, California on July 3, 1932. My birth certificate says I was born 18 miles to the north in Cloverdale because my parents lived there. My father probably broke all speed limits—or tried to in his Model A— to get my mother to the hospital. Soon afterwards he bought a V8.

After that a lot happened, and perhaps I will fill in some of the blanks one day

I now live in France and have lived here for more than 45 years. I expect to finish my days here with my wife, who is French. She is doing a great job pursuing her own ancestors but not (yet) on Wikitree. Up to now (26 April 2021), I have visited the United States every few years. Perhaps I will return one day when the pandemic has calmed down. Genealogy helps me maintain my contacts with my cousins and generally with my home country.

Hi Edgar,

Do you have any sources that show the relationship between Elizabeth (Wiseman) Clifford and her sister, Alice? I didn't see any in either profile, and am wondering if they were known sisters?

Thank you.

posted by S (Hill) Willson
Thanks Ms Willson, for letting me add the W G Davis citation to both. I think that's the best we can do for the moment, altho Vaughn Simon probably had something to say. That led me to add the marriage refs to both profiles and to Giles. Henceforth, I am not going to waste time adding links to other profiles in the biography when those links are already available above. I have cleaned up these two and husbands profiles a bit, But I don't have time to improve Elizabeth's which is a real mess.

Hello Edgar,

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

Hello Edgar,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Pre-1700 ancestors can be shared by many descendants, so collaboration is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

I’m going to suggest that the Puritan Great Migration might fit your current research focus. If not, use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find other possibilities. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Please take your time. Accuracy is so much more important than speed on WikiTree. And please add locations, dates, and at least one reliable source to each profile, particularly any pre-1700s profile, before you leave it. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).

Have questions? Ask in the comments section of my profile.

 :)

Hi Edgar,

Thank you for signing the Honor Code.

The GEDCOMpare process guide has tips on how to use the data in your file most efficiently.

For those using Chrome or Opera browsers, there is a tool that can help with the formatting of profiles which have been created through GEDCOM, so that you can concentrate on the research. You can read more about it in the WikiTree AGC FAQ.

If you have any questions about how WikiTree works, let me know. To contact me, please log in to WikiTree and go to your profile. Use the ‘Reply’ link below my comment to be sure I will be notified. You can also click my name to send a private message, or post a comment, on my profile page.

Thanks for your offers of help. As references, I'm starting by entering some genealogies. I know these are not the best, but they'll do for starters. I promise to enter better ones when I find them. I used to know a little html 20 years ago. Maybe it will come back to me. Meanwhile, I'd like to check with you to see if I'm doing it right. Since I will be referencing this several times, I started with this for my mother:

<ref name=“Hattie”> Hattie, Robert McConnell and Joseph Howe Kirk. Hattie Family Memoirs: An Account of the Families Descended from Alexander Hattie, Emigré of 1786, with Sketches of the Family Pioneers and Related Material. Halifax, NS, Canada:Imperial Publishing Co., 1936.</ref> Then, for her father, I entered this: <ref name=“Hattie”/> p 126 (I should have added a period.) When I look at the private and public views, I see this: [1] p 126 The "1" is underlined and looks like a link, but when I click on it nothing seems to happen. Have I done this correctly?

Hi Edgar,

It greatly excites me to see you doing inline citations! And you've done a great job. But if you move all the text in Hettie's biography that's below the = Sources= <references /> to above that heading, the references will automatically know that they need to show below the sources heading.

I think you would absolutely love the PIP Voyage, you get given a guide, and choose two profiles that you manage, then work on them one at a time communicating with your guide as you go. I just completed mine and I learned so much. The PIP voyage is part of the Profile Improvement Program. We have lots of great projects here at WikiTree. To find projects hover your mouse over the little menu bar at the very top right of your screen over the word "Find", lower your mouse down the dropdown list that appears and click on "projects". When you find a project that you'd like to learn more about click on its clickable heading and you will be taken to the projects page where you can read all about it.

I hope this helps, if you have any more questions don't hesitate to let me know.

Kindest regards, Pam

Thanks, Pam. I have now read the help page on sources again. It seems I passed over the early paragraphs too quickly. I will keep your PIP suggestion in mind.

Hi Edgar and thank you for upgrading, 😊

I am very pleased to welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

It is best to start with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.

Happy tree climbing

PS Did you know that Tags become clickable links to others researching those names, or places, that you are interested in. They also control what is included in the family activity emails from WikiTree.

Welcome!
