Biography

I was born on Baden 4Wing NATO base in Germany on October 10, 1958. I have dual citizenship as a result: Canadian, from my mother, and New Zealand, from my father.

We came to Canada in October, 1960. I had my second birthday on the Cunard liner on which we travelled in First Class, because my father was an officer in the Canadian Air Force. He was a Flying Officer, and a fighter pilot.

When we first came to Canada, we lived in Penhold Alberta. I don't remember much from that time. Then we moved to the University of British Columbia, where we lived in a Fort Camp Army hut while my father did his BSc. My Mum already had a BA from UBC.

After that we lived in Richmond on Williams Road at #3Road for a while. That's where we were when JFK was assassinated. I'm probably about as young as you can be, and still remember that day. I was home sick from preschool, and our house was for sale. Some lady knocked on the door to ask to look at the house, but the phone rang at the same time. My father was calling to tell my Mum to turn on the news. The stranger lady came in, and the three of us watched the breaking news, as it happened.

Next, we moved to Ottawa. In Ottawa I went to Bayview Elementary School for Kindergarten. The following year it was Toronto, for Grade One. My dad was in university there, having started med school. For grades two and three we were in London, Ontario, at 617 Middlewoods Drive. I was in split classes both years. The grade three year, my parents separated, and at spring break my mum moved my baby sister, Jessica, and me, with her to live with our grandma, her Mum, in Victoria BC. My sister took her first steps in the hotel, waiting to fly to Victoria.

I was accelerated that year, so at spring break they switched me to grade four, which I attended at Sir James Douglas Elementary in Victoria. I was in the old building, before they tore it down and rebuilt it. I stayed there for grades five and six. During that time we first lived with my grandmother at 174 Olive Street, and later when they bought a house at 89 Howe Street, we lived there.

In grade seven, my Mum was finally able to get a mortgage, despite the barrier of her being a divorced woman with no man to sign the paperwork. It was at a time when women's rights were really finally being discussed, and change was happening. Anyway, she bought a house on the corner of Shakespeare street and ...I can't remember the cross street. I'll add that later. Anyway, Grade seven, I attended Oaklands Elementary.

In grade 8, we moved back to my grandmother's, this time at Howe street. I went to Lansdowne Secondary. For grade 9, I switched over to Central High, and we moved back into Howe Street. In grade 10, we moved back to Olive Street, where we stayed until I graduated at 16, from Vic High. I went to Vic High for grades 10-12.

Once I graduated, I went to UBC and did a B.Ed. While there, I met and married John Jerry Corriveau in 1978. We had two children: Cody Mellissa Corriveau and Taylor Suzanne Corriveau. They were born by donor insemination, so don't have their genetic paternity information, but they're getting their dna sequenced.

5. Profile Improvement Team
6. Topics Team
7. Diaspora

? Can you let me know which team(s) you’d like to join.

Many thanks,

Hi Cecelia,

We realise the time has come to dissolve the UK Project in favour of the individual country projects of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

We are checking in with all UK badge holders to find out which country project(s) you would like to be in so you can collaborate with other members, have the opportunity to select which team(s) you would like to join, and so we can ensure you have all the correct badges.

Please respond by PM to let us know which country project(s) you would like to be in. Please don’t assume we know. We are effectively starting from scratch to make sure no one falls through the cracks.

Once you have done this, the Coordinator for Membership in the relevant country project(s) will be in touch to help get you situated.

Many thanks,

Susie
