Hi Deborah,

Thanks for having a Big Heart and adopting Orphan Profiles. You will want to read this After adopting orphans FAQ to understand what to do next and it explains the special attention those profiles need. You may also want to go through the new member help on How to manage your Watchlist.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Hi, Deborah

At WikiTree, we aim to protect the privacy of all living individuals for their protection and in line with data protection legislation.

WikiTree has excellent privacy controls, but that won’t protect you and your family if you publish your personal information or the information of your living family members in your biography, Communications section, or on the profiles of others.

Since WikiTree is a public website, I suggest you remove references to dates, locations, or living individuals from your biography, or communication section, or comments.

For further information, see Privacy and Data Protection. For WikiTree’s Privacy Policy, see Privacy Policy.

Many thanks

Hi, Deborah

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hi Deborah. You connected Brock-5648 to Isaac Brock and Adella Sinard. It is unlikely a woman born in PA was the sister to people born in SC between 1770-1790. Do you have a primary source for Elizabeth's placement in this family?

Hi Karen,

Thank you very much for checking in with me. The How-To has been helpful. I do wish I had started with a smaller GED file. It's slow going getting people added, but that is moving right along after I got all the entries compared and reviewed. I don't get as much time as I like to work on it. I love the concept of one family tree here.

Hi Deborah! Is the gedcom from Ancestry.com or somewhere else?
posted by Greta Moody
It's from Ancestry.com. I've just been working on my tree for the last month and now it seems I'm addicted.

Hi Deborah! :) I have to admit I'm addicted to WikiTree!!!

When you log in to Ancestry click on your tree and select the tree setting, on the right hand side under manage your tree click on export your tree and that will start the GEDCOM, it takes a few minutes, once it has downloaded you can then upload it on here. It will take a few minutes to upload, and you will get a message through when it is ready. The GEDCOM will not automatically populate your tree, it generates a GEDCOMpare report which you work through either accepting or rejecting suggested matches, once you have done this any remaining names will need to be added manually

There is a limit of 5000 names with the GEDCOM.

Once your GEDcompare report is ready, you then go through your report and compare all the persons with a dark green “compare” button. You will have to reject or match every one of these persons before the ADD button will appear, and you can now Add your people from your GEDCOM.

TIP - Do not tick the completed box until you are totally finished with that person.

TIP - Try to Add people in order, the correct relationship will automatically be updated if you add direct relations, e.g. brother, mother, son. Adding a person without a direct link makes them an unrelated person that needs linking later.

Hope this helps!
