DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Janice or other carriers of her ancestors' mitochondrial DNA. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Janice:

Have you taken a DNA test? If so, login to add it. If not, see our friends at Ancestry DNA.

Hi Janice

Thank you for signing the Honor Code it is appreciated.  I notice that you have added CVIL WAR and REVOLUTION_WAR green tags to your profile, I would recommend you explore the MILITARY_AND_WAR project to clearly identify which is the correct tag related to which of wars you wish your tag to relate too as there were many around the world.

Tags do help you link into the community and to those who have an interest in the same surnames or countries.  You can have up to 20 tags, I would suggest you add your mother and grandmother's maiden surnames also add the following as tags

CUNDIFF

To add tags go to  your tags

You can find more information about tags here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Tags.

Hope this helps you make the connections you are looking for

Thank you for this. My sister, Margaret did an ancestry check on us and did a great job with death certificates, marriage certificates, and even went to gravesites and took pictures. We discovered through our aunts and uncles that our last name was not our biological Trail so surnames as tags are of no use to us. DNA is what we are looking for. Thanks. One sibling is on 23 and Me, I was on AncestryDNA. We have found some real surprises that match what was told to us. We really want to find out the truth. In some of the profiles we have discovered on Wikitree (and I have only been on a few days) I have found some real discrepancies and I wish I had not clicked on the create profile, because I have personal files that dispute what you have. I will wait the week and see if the managers of those profiles are willing to see my data and change to the correct. information.

Congrats on being a Family Member of WikiTree, Janice!

First, make sure you check out our New Member How-To pages. They will save you time learning our system: New Member How-To pages. You may be interested in the Civil War Project.

Thank you for adding your DNA Test information to your profile on WikiTree. Your information will be propagated to the profiles of your parents and your ancestors within about 24 hours of being added. It will also propagate to the profiles of the descendants of your ancestors, so they may see your information under the heading "DNA Connections" just as you can see theirs.

Getting started with DNA outlines how to proceed to use your DNA test information on WikiTree and DNA is a link to a collection of links about WikiTree's many features involving DNA.

The DNA Connections list on your profile will provide a visual way for you to find potential relatives on WikiTree who have also added their DNA test information. Using DNA tools at sites like GEDMatch.com, if you find a relative that matches your DNA sufficiently and you have genealogical sources for the intermediate relationships, you can mark the specific parental relationships back to the most recent ancestor that you both share as "confirmed with DNA." For details, guidance, and examples of how to properly document DNA confirmations, see DNA confirmation.

To get the best results, begin adding sourced profiles for your ancestors until you can connect to ancestors already in WikiTree. If you have exhausted what you know on one line, it can sometimes help to add what you know on another line. The more branches you are able to add the greater the likelihood of finding potential cousins to match with. The process of identifying which branch elements of DNA relate to will better enable you to find matches that relate to the particular branches you are researching.

One of our mentors created a tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process that others found very helpful. I hope that you will too.

May I suggest you take your family mystery and brick wall to our Genealogist-to-Genealogist forum (G2G)? If the ancestor in question already has a profile on WikiTree, you can click the "Ask Question" button/link on the right-hand side of their profile.

Let me know if you have any questions, and have fun!

Thank you for your comments. My grandfather was biologically a Sadler, but was raised by Timothy Cundiff, all Cundiffs are half-brothers and sisters of my grandfather, as is the siblings of Robert Sadler. This may help in any confusion on my grandfather's lineage. I did take a DNA test in ANCESTRYDNA and have uploaded the DNA results to Wikitree. I will be interested in matches etc. because I have hit a brick wall on my grandmother's side with Clement Baker from Baden, Germany. He appeared in the 1870 census in Vincennes, Indiana and two children were born in the early 1870's and then he disappeared off the face of the earth. His wife, and children came back to Kentucky and are buried in the family cemetery here. We shall see if there is any luck. here. Thanks.
