Biography

Judith Cogan was born in Taunton, Somerset, England. She was baptized on 13 June 1594 at St Mary Magdalene, Taunton, Somerset, England. She was the daughter of Henry Cogan and Joan Boridge.[1]

Marriage

In a double wedding with her sister Johane, Judith married Willim King 13 April 1618, at the same church where she was baptized.[1]

William died in Taunton was buried 15 May 1619, just 13 months after their wedding.

She married her second husband, Giles Rickard on 7 January 1623/24 in West Hatch, Somerset, England.[1][2]

Judith immigrated to New England with her husband, three children, and her son Samuel from her first marriage. They set sail on the Speedwell, departing from Weymouth, Dorset England, arriving 22 April 1637 at Plymouth Colony, [Giles Richard[sic], his wife, 3 children, 1 boy and 1 maid"]. Judith's brother Henry, and sister Frances, wife of John Whitcomb had already immigrated,[3]

Judith Rickard, "wife of Giles," died 6 February 1661/2 at Plymouth,[4] .

Coggan-46 and Cogan-19 appear to represent the same person because: Same person. Coggan and Cogan are alternate spellings; I have no preference for one over the other, but I note that the spelling "Cogan" predominates in the two biographies.
