I was born in 1959 in London, England. I went to Hull University but have otherwise always lived in London. I married in 1989 and have two great children. My son completed his degree and is now working in recruitment. My daughter has completed her Musical Theatre training and is now working as a pre-prep teacher.

My main hobby is genealogy and I spend a lot of my spare time researching my family tree and sometimes helping others. These days it is much easier because of the ever increasing online records. I find that cemetery records can be particularly useful and also touching since they represent the last physical existence of the deceased.

My father's family came over to London's East End at the very start of the 20th Century from Russia/Poland.

My mother came to England from Vienna, Austria on the brink of WW2. I have found branches of my mother's family all over the world. In Europe, many were lost in the holocaust. In the U.S., I have discovered links back to the American Civil War.

Hi Philip, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a marvelous New Year.

The Annual US Civil War January Challenge is to connect US Civil War Soldiers for the January Connect-a-Thon. This year will be a twist of what I usually do. Instead of you choosing a "Surname Letter", you will be choosing from a block of soldiers whom I've already screened that show they have family to connect. Each soldier has a connection to one or more of his immediate family--parents, siblings, spouses, children, on their profile. Whether you work on one soldier or your whole block of soldiers, it's one step closer in our goal to connect each of our US Civil War Soldiers. The goal is to make sure all these soldiers are connected at least by one or two degrees. You can sign up now by clicking this link: US Civil War Sign-up Chart

Registration begins soon for the January thon. I will be reminding you when it is time to register, but I have some news that will be helpful when that time comes. I have been told that we will be trying a new registration system. When you go in to register, it will not be just making a comment as in the past. The new system will have sections for each team. You will just find the Legacy Heirs one and post to that one.

Here is a list of all 4 thons next year:

Connect-a-Thon Jan 19-22

Connect-a Thon Apr 12-15

Connect-a Thon Jul 19-22

Source-a-Thon Oct 4-7

That means the first Thon of the year will be a Connect-a-Thon on the weekend of the 19 - 22 Jan 2024. I would love to have you with your fellow Legacy Heirs at that time, if it works out for you. I will remind you about registration when that time comes.

P.S. I now know a quick and easy little tip on how to add profiles. If you use the Sourcer/Searcher app, and want to know the hint, let me know and I will send you the steps.

Hi Philip - thank you for being a member of the Jewish Roots Project! I wanted to let you know about some new things we have going on.

- You can see new tabs at the top of our home page, where you can select topics to view or work on. You can also use our new maintenance categories - feel free to add them to your own family, or any other Jewish Roots profile, or work on the maintenance yourself, such as adding new records to profiles with only a couple sources.

-I'm sending an invitation to join GoogleGroups, which we are re-starting this week. We'll probably do most group chat there, but the most important things will be posted on G2G, which you will be notified about if you follow the jewish_roots tag.

-You can also join Wikitree's discord server, where we have a Jewish Roots chat channel.

-If you have ideas or suggestions for the project, feel free to reply here or send me a message.

Thank you! -Elaine, co-leader for Jewish Roots Project

Hello!!!!

As we start this first Thon of 2022, I just want to say thank you for being a Legacy Heir!!! Have fun with this one and remember, We take it at our own individual pace. If you like to love one profile all weekend, so be it! Make that the most beautiful profile you can. If you choose to do many profiles!!! That is great too!! Just make sure you have at least one good source. Even one contribution makes this amazing tree more beautiful, healthy and strong that it was before that contribution!!

Family, obligations and most importantly, YOU are more important than the thon! We love having you here, but if something comes up, elsewhere, take care of that first. You Rock Legacy Heirs, lets have some fun and connect some profiles!!

I am going to be in at that time (5 am here) but please do not worry if you have to come in hours or days later.
