On behalf of the South African team

Thank you for your interest in our project and contributions to our South African family tree

Hi Liam

I’m always so excited to bump into another member researching their South African Roots like me, 😊

Perhaps you would like to join the South African Roots Project? You can do this by clicking this link here and answer the post. Besides links to sources, there are help pages that might also be useful. After joining the SA Roots project you can then sign up to any of the sub-projects, such as Anglo Boer War, 1820 Settlers, Cape of Good Hope, Voortrekkers or British Home Children. Note however, that it's not required that you be in a project or subproject to be able to contribute to profiles from those periods in time / location / projects, but it does help to a least refer to the project's help pages for guidelines.

Many / most of the South African genealogical lines and profiles of the eighteenth and seventeenth periods (and earlier) have already been made. Many have also been validated with primary sources. So it won't take you long to connect your branches to the bigger South African tree.

A few handy links:

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do. Really - don't hesitate to give me a shout any time you have questions, I love guiding new people around the site.

Happy tree climbing

Hi Liam, Welcome to WikiTree.

We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.

Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: New Member How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.

Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.
