This profile is part of the Richardson Name Study.

This is a One Name Study to collect together in one place everything about this surname and the variants of that name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join our study to help make it a valuable reference point for people studying lines that cross or intersect. Please contact the project leaders, add categories to your profiles, add your questions to the bulletin board, add details of your name research, etc.

DNA analysis assists in determining that two or more participants who have tested their yDNA descend from a common male ancestor, it will not identify the specific ancestor without the use of accurate record documentation used in genealogical research.

The purpose of this study is to work together to establish an accurate Richardson Family tree by using the best possible sources available for documentation. We can help the effort by growing the best Richardson tree possible.

Origin of Richardson Surname

Richardson name was brought into England during the migration following the Norman Conquest, 1066. It is taken from the German name,”Ricard” meaning ”powerful”, or “brave”

  • John Richardson is recorded as being one of the men responsible for transporting and selling as slaves, in the West Indies, many of the convicted Monmouth Rebels in 1685

Members

  • Heather Douglas Thomas Richardson (b 1774 Stapelton Cumberland England d 20th Sept, 1844) and Thomas Richardson (b~1676 Kirk Andrews On Esk, Cumberland)
  • Heather Richardson Jimmy Richardson (father) of Texas. James Harvey Richardson of Kentucky. My Richardson’s were in Texas, Tennessee, Kentucky.
  • Rodney Richardson Durham England, Pennsylvania, McDowell County West Virginia Richardson ancestors.
  • Phil Richardson x2 separate Richardson branches in my Heritage. Both originating in England.
  • Marylyn Kenyon- My third great-grandfather is Hill Richardson. He is one of my last remaining brick walls. I hope this can be solved. I am interested in joining the Richardson Project. I have a brick wall at Hill Richardson, born circa 1776 Rhode Island. Family history says he was part of the Richardsons in Massachusetts, from the brothers Thomas, Ezekial, and Samuel. I have a pattern of autosomal DNA matches which are consistent with Samuel Richardson. I have enlisted a couple of male Richardsons, descending from two different sons of Hill Richardson to do Y-DNA testing. The results for both of them are matches to Townsends of Oyster Bay. I would like to make some progress on this brick wall. It appears that most of the Y-DNA testing at Family Tree DNA is for Richardsons in Virginia - not so much in Massachusetts. I have no idea when or where the NPE took place along the Richardson line.
Marilyn, If you want to send me a private Wikitree email with your email address, I will add you.

The Richardson b=name study is pvc white - open. But it doesn't hurt to have your name listed as well.

I am interested in joining the Richardson group. My maternal grandmother was Doris Frances Richardson descended from the William Robert Richardson 1802-1882 and Jane Pilkington 1805-1873

The family originally came from Ireland , born in Wicklowe and left Dublin in the 1840s and came to Cape Town, South Africa.

Would love to read some biographies of that branch of the family.

I'm interested in joining the Richardson project. I never really knew my dad and have been working on this side of my family tree for about 16 years now. I've worked on several different sites Ancestry.com,Family Search.org,My Heritage.com I've also had DNA testing done with Ancestry and FTDNA, I've uploaded it to GEDmatch and My Heritage. A cousin of mine got in touch with me in 2004 and had been searching for her family members also she had some information about our families. My grandfather Thomas Harrison Richardson and wife Elizabeth Keeffe came to the United States in 1903 from Weardale Durham County England to Troop Pennsylvania to an uncle Edward Fitzgerald. They moved into McDowell County West Virginia U.S. In around 1911? My dad was born in Olyphant Lackawanna County Pennsylvania in 1905. He had a brother Stephen Harrison Richardson that was born in Durham England. He had several other brothers and sisters that were born in Olyphant Pa. and McDowell County West Virginia. DNA has helped confirm the Richardson, Keeffe, Fitzgerald and Freak lines. My dad's grandparents were John Harrison Richardson and Francis Freak from Durham County England. Hope to learn and help with this project.

I have been researching my family history for over 20 years and have hit a roadblock (for over 18 of those) on my Richardson line. I have gotten to David Richardson b. Aug 1823 in Nova Scotia and that is the end of my line. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I would love to join. My grandmother's maiden name is Richardson. The crest on the right is the crest of my Richardson line. I have ordered a DNA kit from Ancestry and will be posting that when I receive the results.

I updated some of the Leader info in this bio for y'all, I also removed the part about awarding badges since badges are now awarded only to the managers of One Name Studies.  :)
all the males in my Richardson lineage have the middle name of Van Spike or the Dutch spelling Van Speijk.

hi Debra, I was going to create a Richardson One name Study project. Following the preceeding suggestions, I ran a search. Found this started by you. Are you doing a Richardson one name study?. If so will you add me to the manager list for this One Name study, so that I can safely enter the data I found for the Richardson name?

thanks,
