Biography
Baptism
- 2 Dec 1646 Tuil, Neerijnen, Gelderland, Netherlands[1]
Immigration
- MAR 1663 'Rose Tree', to New York, NY[2]
Marriage
He married Jannetje Adriaens in 1672, apparently at Flatbush, Long Island. Evidence for the date of their marriage is that on 26 February 1672 Gysbert Tysz at New Utrecht paid the Flatbush Church a marriage fee of two English shillings.[3] Jannetje and her family had also immigrated on de Rooseboom (The Rose Tree) in 1663, recorded as "Adriaen Lammertsen, from Tielderweert, wife and six children, 17, 15, 11, 7, 5, and 3 years old, and Jacob Hendrix, his nephew."[4] Tielderweert was indicated to be the country around Tiel (or Thuyl) in Gelderland.[5] Tiel is about 14 km from Gijsbert's baptism place of Tuil. It is possible that the families were acquainted in the Netherlands, and likely that they were well-acquainted from journeying together to New Netherland. Ledley and Moorhouse suggested that "Gisbert" and Jannetje were the eleven-year old children enumerated in their fathers' ship records and that they "began a shipboard romance which continued ashore, even though Gisbert’s family settled in New Utrecht and Jannetje’s in the New Lots section of Flatbush."[6]

Death
- Gijsbert died in 1727.[8] Since his will was proved 17 May 1727, he died before that date.[9] Since he was of Middletown, Monmouth County, New Jersey when his will was written in 1720,[9] it is likely that he died at Middletown.
