Huguette Agathe Vincent was born around 1664 to parents Pierre Vincent and Anne Gaudet in Port Royal, Acadia.[1] She was counted in the first Acadian census in 1671 at the age of 7, in Port-Royal,[2] and again in 1678 at the age of 15. There were 4 boys in the household, and she was the eldest of the 2 girls.[3]

Around 1684, Huguette married Jean Bastarache from the Basque region in France.[1] They likely married in Port Royal (Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, Canada) as her parents had been living there since 1671.

The couple settled in Port Royal. Between around 1685 and 1702, Hugette gave birth to five children: Marie-Anne, François-Marie, Anne, Jean, and Pierre.[1]

In 1686, at Port Royal, Huguette VINCENT, aged 22, was living with her husband, Jean de BASTARACHE, aged 25, and their young daughter Marianne [sic], aged 7 months. No land or possessions were mentioned in the 1686 Census.[4]

In 1693, at Port Royal, Agat [sic] VINCENT, aged 29, was living with her husband, Jean BASTARACHE, aged 35, and their two children: Marie Anne, aged 9, and Francoise [sic] Marie, aged 6. The family owned 1 gun and was living on 4 arpents of cultivable land with 5 cattle, 6 sheep, and 4 pigs.[5]

Between 1698 and 1707, the censuses show that Jean and Huguette seemed to be doing well with a growing family, and an increasing number of animals and cultivable land.[6][7] [8][9]

By 1707, the family homestead was located east of the fort (Anne) on the south side of the Dauphin (Annapolis) River.[10]

In 1714, Jean was around 56 years of age, and Huguette was about 50. There were two sons still living with them.[11]

Huguette passed away in October 1717, aged about 50 years and was buried 28 October 1717 at Port Royal, Acadia.[12][13]

DNA. Huguette Vincent's mother was Anne Gaudet, whose mother was Martine Gauthier. The Mothers of Acadia Maternal DNA project is conducting ongoing research to verify their origins. In 2010, Stephen White reported that Martine Gauthier had a J1b1 haplogroup. I don't know the details of how many of her descendants were tested to support this report. Lucie Leblanc Constantino describes one maternal tree here. Ongoing test results are also reported here. As of May 2014, 2 of 2 descendants have reported a J haplogroup, indicating European origins.
