My confirmed paternal Irish lines disconnect once we cross the pond. We know with certainty they came from Ireland to New York (initially) during the Potato Famine (~1850). Most ended up in Michigan shortly after arrival.

I also have confirmed Y-DNA traced back to The Three Collas - rulers of the Kingdom of Airgíalla. The Three Collas lived in Ireland around 300 A.D... now I just need to fill the gap between the two!

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with James or other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
  • James Dignan: Family Tree DNA Y-DNA Test 700 markers, haplogroup R-PF4440, FTDNA kit #B67020
Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line:
  • James Dignan: Family Tree DNA mtDNA Test Full Sequence, haplogroup H5a1c1a, FTDNA kit #B67020
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:

Hi James,

Thanks for having a Big Heart and taking responsibility for Orphaned Profiles. You will want to read this After Adopting Orphans as it explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need from their profile managers. You may also want to go through the new member help on How to manage your Watchlist.

Hi James,

It’s time for our annual Ireland Project check-in! Please respond within the next two weeks to let me know:

  • If you are happy with the team you’re on or if you’d like to make a change. It is now required that all members with an Ireland project badge work on at least one of the project’s team(s), so if you’ve not yet signed up please do so in your reply to this check-in.
  • What you think the project is doing well, and what (if any) changes you would like to see us make? Are there any teams you would like to become more active in?
  • Would you be interested in helping to work on an Ireland Project newsletter?
  • Please give us some feedback on the use of google group and discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you don’t use either of them, what is the best way for us to ensure you receive project communications? If you would like to join us on either one, just let us know in your response and we will get you signed up.

Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within two weeks, we will assume you are no longer interested in participating in the Ireland Project, and your badge will be removed. If you wish to reapply for membership later, we will be happy to have you back. Many thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Jen Hutton, on behalf of the Ireland Project

Hi James,

I noticed that you are adding new profiles from a GEDCOM file. There is a tool that can help with the formatting so that you can concentrate on the genealogy. It's fairly new and I've found it helpful. You can read more about it in the WikiTree AGC FAQ. I've used it quite a bit, so may be able to help if you have any questions.

Hi Richard,

Sorry, just now seeing your post from 2020.

Margaret Peggy (Offill) Underwood (abt. 1739 - abt. 1808) is the daughter of Mary (Rucker) Offill (abt.1702-abt.1785), my seventh great grandmother. So, I am her 6th great grand nephew.

Regards, James

Hi James,

Just a note to mention that you may see the addition of the "Mayflower Family Member" project box on some of your profiles. Please continue to manage these profiles as you have previously. Thanks, Bobbie -- Mayflower Project co-leader

Hi James,

The Ireland Project (previously the Irish Roots Project) has now changed its structure into Teams. We require everyone with the Ireland Badge to be a member of at least one Team or Sub-Team and our google group. See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Ireland for details. The Teams are :-

1. Categories Team
2. Counties Team
3. Managed Profiles Team
4. Membership Team
5. Profile Improvement Team
6. Topics Team
7. Diaspora

? Can you let me know if you’d like to stay on in the new project and which team(s) you’d like to join. Please also let me know your e-mail address so that I can get you added to the project’s Google Group or confirm you are already a member of the google group.

Many thanks,

Maria

James,

WikiTree's Native American project periodically reviews those with the NA Project badge. We noticed that you have been inactive on WikiTree for a long time. Knowing that life does happen and priorities shift, we just wanted to check in with you to see if you were still interested in participating in this project. We look forward to hearing from you.

James, Welcome to the Mayflower Project. You will need to add MAYFLOWER to your list of followed tags. You are already following HOPKINS. Most coordination for this project takes place in g2g. Thank you for joining.

I asked that you merge files based on the fact that Hammons-390 is the daughter of Hammons-22, where I was putting in her father it asked if Hammons-22 was a match. I said yes and proposed the merge. If that is not the way it is done then I don't know how else to do it. But it would seem obvious to me that a male and female from different generations would have sparked some interest from you?

I have decided to be a volunteer to help grow the shared tree. While I don't have any particular genealogical experience, I can help to maintain a positive and productive effort in collaboration on WikiTree.
