Hi Susan

Thank you for all the work that you have done for the England Project. I do not seem to have had a response from you from the recent England Project check in.

If I do not hear from you within the next 2 weeks I will presume that you wish to leave the project. If you leave us, I hope that you will want to re-join us sometime in the future. You can do this by responding to our G2G post. https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1516540/is-2023-your-year-to-join-the-england-project

Regards Joan,

England Project Leaders

Dear Susan,

On behalf of the England Project, I would like to thank you for your commitment to the project's goals. Every single contribution you make helps improve English profiles!

The England Project Leaders like to touch base with each of our members periodically to make sure everything is going well. This is our formal annual check-in with you.

Are you happy to with your current project team choices? Would you like to join any other teams?

Also, we would really like to hear which team is currently your highest priority. If you are a member of more than one team, could you please rank them from highest priority to lowest? Thank you! If you don’t see yourself as being part of a team, please let us know.

We also welcome any feedback on things you would like to see the project do more of in the future.

I look forward to hearing from you. Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message.

On behalf of all the Leaders, thank you again for all you do and we look forward to you continuing to be a part of our collaborative and fun Project!

Kind regards,

Dear Susan,

On behalf of the England Project, I would like to thank you for all your contributions towards the project's goals. Every single contribution you make helps improve English profiles!

I'd also like to share our annual Newsletter with you. You can read it here: England Project Newsletters. We hope you enjoy reading a bit about what has gone on in 2022 and what our Project has achieved.

The England Project Leaders like to touch base with each of our members every 6 months just to make sure everything is going well. There's no need to reply to this message unless you have something you'd like to let us know about (e.g. if you would like to change your team choices or provide other feedback). We will be in touch with you again in the middle of next year when we do our annual check-in with project members.

On behalf of all the Leaders, I wish you a peaceful and productive 2023.

Best wishes,

Joan, England Project Leader

Hi Susan,

I wrote to you recently as part of the England Project's six-monthly check-in with our project members. I haven't heard back from you. I hope you are well.

If you could please drop me a quick note to confirm whether you are still interested in the project and wish to remain an active member, that would be very helpful.

If we do not hear from you within the next 2 weeks, we will assume you are no longer active in the England Project and remove you from our list of project members. You would be most welcome to re-apply to join the project at a later time by signing-up on the project’s G2G welcome post.

Many thanks!

Hi Susan,

I would like to thank you for all your contributions towards the goals of the England Project during the past six months. We've achieved a huge amount during this period and we couldn't have done it without you and our other project members.

As the England Project Leaders, we are completing our six monthly check-in with all project members.

Are you happy to stay in your current project team(s)? Which team(s) are you most active in? Are there other teams you would like to join or become more active in?

Also, do you have any feedback on what the project is doing well and anything we could do better in the future?

Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Nic

Thanks for your message. Sorry I've not been very active for several weeks, partly due to having a lot on my plate, and partly because I was having a job keeping up with the vast amount of Wiki emails coming through. I believe I'm on the Sorcerers Team and the Yorkshire Team. I did try and contribute to a weekend/monthly challenge a while back and got stuck, I can't even remember which one it was but I posted a query on the actual request post in G2G and didn't get a response so I gave up. I've also had an WikiTree email from John Phillips to confirm I've been added as a new member of the Christopher Phillips Trusted List but I didn't apply to be put on a Trusted List so I'm totally baffled as to what I'm supposed to do with this? Regarding the Project doing well, I think the OT1 was a great start to learning more about WikiTree and having a Trailblazer, who in my case was a great support and Mentor was really helpful, particularly on building my confidence as WikiTree was a totally new system to me. However, once I'd completed that I was on my own and think I would have benefitted from a Mentor from the particular teams I joined to initiate me into the processes of a further project/challenge, instead of just an email with a link and WikiTree help pages. There's a massive amount to take in so I'm sure I can't be the only one feeling like this?

Hello Susan,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

I see you are already a member of the England Project - that is great! You can also use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).

Ginny~ Pre-1700 Greeter

Thank you for your message Virginia. I'm not sure I should have taken the Quiz yet! I'm on OT1 and was refreshing my mind on expected standards and was clicking here and there and saw the link to take the Quiz. I thought 'oooh a Quiz, I'll have a go', hence I now have a badge 'Pre-1700' but I have clicked hide from Profile because I'm only just on my first 1700 - 1837 Profile, and don't feel I've earned it yet.

However I am enjoying being part of WikiTree and OT1, and will speak to my Trailblazer regarding utilising my skills once I've achieved what I need to.

Hello Susan!

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

Hi Cheryl

Thank you for your message. I'm loving WikiTree, I can't figure out why I never came across it before now! I'm currently doing the Orphan Trail and have learnt so much in a short space of time, and it's really made me look at Genealogy and research in a totally different light.

Yes I have found the New Member How to Pages really useful. I would have been totally baffled without those, all the links leading to more help, G2G, and now of course My Trailblazer.

I have only got stuck on one thing and that's the Contents list on a Biography. I managed to input one on my first Orphan and it was ok, but my second Orphan's just went to pot even though I followed the tips page for style and standards (think that's what it was called), and tried suggestions by my Trailblazer. The list later appeared, and all in order......does the Contents list automatically input itself at some point if the Profile Manager doesn't do it? I'm totally baffled on this one.

Thanks for upgrading, Anonymous. I hope you discover as much about your family as I have about mine over the years.

The How-to pages have some quick tips on working with both the Wiki pages and our other members.

Take your time, keep track of sources, and use the Genealogist-to-Genealogist (G2G) forum to ask questions about families and research.

If you have questions about how WikiTree works, let me know. To contact me, log into WikiTree, and go to your profile. Use the ‘Reply’ link below my comment so that I will be notified. You can also click my name to send a private message, or post a comment, on my profile page.

Hi Debi

Thank you for your warm welcome message, much appreciated. I've taken on an orphan profile, which happens to be relatives of mine. However being new to WikiTree I'm not sure if I've attached them to my tree correctly. I've also edited names to match those found in sources I have in my own personal tree. Hopefully you or someone will be checking I'm not making too much of a mess of it. Regards Sue

Thanks for your note, Sue,

We don't monitor but do check-in when various things happen such as your adopting the orphaned profile. I'll include the message I usually post later in this comment. I took a look at the profile you adopted; the work you have done so far looks good. The source could use a little more information; right now it is just a database name. If you'll include the website where you used the database and a link to the record, it will help collaborators assess the evidence. You might find the England Project's onboarding process helpful. They will help you learn about formatting and adding sources the WikiTree way.

Thanks for taking responsibility for the Orphaned Profiles. This After Adopting Orphans FAQ explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need from their profile managers. One quick way to find the profiles you adopted is by searching your Contributions List for the word "adopted" and "manager." You can find a quick link to your Contributions List in the My WikiTree dropdown menu.

If you adopt any profiles that need GEDCOM cleanup, there is a tool that can help with the formatting so that you can concentrate on the research. You can read more about it in the WikiTree AGC FAQ. Let me know if you have any questions on how to find and record sources, merge duplicates, clean up GEDCOM biographies, and interpret the Suggestions report.

Please do let me know if you have any questions about how WikiTree works, even if they seem minor. My rule of thumb when I started was to search for an answer for five minutes, then reach out to my Greeters, and then resume searching. I might have found the answer before they got back to me but they sometimes offered a different way of doing the same thing which was easier. We are always here to help.

See you in the branches,

Debi ~ WikiTree Greeter

PS We have a research tool that makes finding reliable sources easier. I use it all the time and it helps me remember different places to check. To give it a try, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research, scroll down near the bottom of that list, and select Research with RootsSearch (use your WikiTree email & password). There are over 20 websites to access from there. You can read more about the tool in the RootsSearch FAQ.

Hi Debi

Thanks for your feedback and useful guidance, it may take me a while to absorb all the information in the links. I'm not so knowledgeable on the tech side of things. GEDCOM /cleanup is totally new to me and in trying to familiarise myself with this website I hadn't got a clue what the report meant when I clicked into Suggestion from the drop down menu so I guess I'll need some support in those areas. I'll try and catch up with attaching source links.

Thanks again Sue

I'm so sorry, Sue. I did kind of drop you a book there. The most important part is near the end where I said to please ask us if you have any questions. We really do want to help and I"m not usually quite that verbose. Debi

Lol, that's ok, I can write for England when I get going. Thanks for taking the time to be so informative.

I've accessed and applied to the England Projects. I'm just on their site now, seeing what's acceptable sources v evidence and trying to see how I need to provide the sources/links, they seem to be very particular, which is great but my main tree is on Ancestry.co.uk and the documents I've researched and saved on there can't be opened to copy the link without me paying for another subscription, which I'm reluctant to do at the moment. I've tried some on the RootSearch links, FindMyPast etc are the same. Sue

Thanks for being the impetus to do something I had been planning. Here is a link to the G2G post that I just shared on how to create citations from Ancestry with an expired subscription.
