Help us find and improve next week's Connection Finder profiles: Royalty [closed]

The recent coronation of King Charles III has us looking at royalty in the Connection Finder next week to celebrate!

Here's who we're getting started on:

Who else should we feature? We have room for eleven notables. We can't feature everyone who is nominated, but if we don't feature a profile you work on, we may use it sometime in the future. And, of course, all contributions help improve our shared tree.

Our choice of features will depend partly on the notable person's CC7, i.e. their connection count within seven degrees. The more connections they have, the more likely it is for all WikiTree members to find a close and interesting connection to them. So, if you nominate someone, please help grow their CC7.

We'll make a final decision on which ones to feature early next week.

Please reply here with what you're working on so that we don't duplicate our efforts. Thank you!

Take note that this is not the place to discuss why you think we shouldn't feature someone if those reasons are due to politics, actions, or opinions of those being suggested.  Mentioning things like their not being connected, their biography still needing work, erroneous information, etc. are all suitable for discussion here and an opportunity to correct those situations.

Help us plan Connection Finder themes for 2023 here.

Does this challenge include all members of royal families or only crowned heads of state?

Perhaps Plantagenet-70 will have a high amount of linkage. I think after him all kings of England will have far fewer traceable descendants.
by Andrew Lancaster G2G6 Pilot (142k points)
I guess the question might come up: what about an earlier king? Then we get even more modern descendants. All the English kings are of course related, so there is probably no point have more than 1 (or 2)?

Of course I am only including the ones who fathered kings.

Cases could therefore be made for the two dynasty founders? William I and/or Henry II.
Thank you, Andrew.

John (Plantagenet) of England - After his brother, Richard "The Lionheart", dies in battle, John becomes king. But he tried to take the throne 9 years before Richard's death and created the legend of Robin Hood in the process. He was also forced by his barons to sign the Magna Carta in 1215.

How about the following?

Wilhelm I of Germany - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hohenzollern-36

Ludwig II of Bavaria:

Stanislaw Poniatowski, (last) King of Poland:

Extending westward to León & Castile, I think Afonso I de Portugal, the first Sovereign King of Portugal, would be an interesting choice. He achieved the independence of Portugal from the Moors in the 12th century. He also is well connected with a CC7 count around 6600.

From Japan, Empress Dowager Eishō (CC7=2826) and from China, the Qianlong Emperor who was one of the longest-reigning monarchs in history.

Our insistence on prioritizing the CC7 continues to prevent us from trying to recognize a significant number of non-European or American profiles, but so it goes.

My nomination is someone from one of the royal families of Malaysia, since the 15 Nations Tour has managed to connect some of them:

Abdul Rahman of Negeri Sembilan

Tengku Ampuan Afzan

by Thomas Koehnline G2G6 Pilot (102k points)
Those are two great candidates for inclusion.

Egyptian royalty:

Muhammad Ali Pasha

King Farouk

I would be remiss if I didn't second Thomas' nomination. The 15 Nations Global Project did an amazing job at connecting six of Malaysia's nine royal families to the Global Tree. Queen Afzan is the mother of the current King of Malaysia and the wife of a former king. She also connects to all six of the royal families.

Another issue that I'm seeing with featuring some of these, beyond the CC7, which isn't always a primary consideration, is that there is little to no biography. That actually plays a one of the biggest roles in deciding who to feature.
Thanks, Thomas.
Does the CC7 number included living spouses and other individuals through the living spouse.  At one time it didn't, but I haven't checked recently.
I believe it does.

What about....Willem Hendrik Oranje-Nassau lll King of England, Scotland and Ireland, (Oranje-Nassau-20). His mother was Mary Princess Royal, who was a daughter of King Charles l.
by Megan Woodward G2G6 Mach 4 (41.6k points)

Your link for Willem above, (Nassau-20), takes us to Maurits (Nassau) van Oranje-Nassau.

This is the correct ID: Oranje-Nassau-20

I don't believe this is an intentional link, it's just that the site sees it in that way and creates one automatically.
What link?  I see a WikiTree ID-# (the correct one - Oranje-Nassau-20), no link.

I see "Oranje-Nassau-20".

I see no link at all in Megan's post.  Only in Shonda's - and our names.

Perhaps your browser - or some extension - is doing that for you.

This seems to be something WikiTree BEE does, although I can't find anything mentioning it in the options.
It is also mis-interpreting the WT ID-#, by ignoring the first part of the hyphenated name.
Perhaps this should be taken to a different place, and Ian alerted?

That feature of WikiTree BEE is described at the following link as having been moved to the WikiTree Browser Extension:

https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Space:WikiTree_BEE#Plain-text_links_become_clickable_links

I currently have WikiTree BEE 32.8.15 and WikiTree Browser Extension 1.5.2. This linking only stops when I disable BEE. It persists when I have WBE enabled.

Thank you, Melanie! Yes, the "link" in her post did not take me anywhere, but because only Nassau-20 looked like it was hyperlinked, that is what I assumed the ID was and did a WikiTree search using Nassau-20 and came up with Maurits (Nassau) van Oranje-Nassau.
To all the comments above....

The WikiTree ID for the profile that I was suggesting (which is correct) was used only as a reference, just like Andrew Lancaster's WT ID for 'Plantagenet-70' in his comment above.

By the way, many thanks for your comments...

Many thanks Melanie yes

I don't see a link either bit there have been a lot of changes recently based on how the user loks at content. For example I do all work from my phone- Android based and as I posted in G2G it is as if something else becomes unusable every other week...but I am reminded by those using ios or a desktop that they have no issues and "see" things automatically created. I don't use quotations to doubt the user but use them in my way meaning it might be a visual link created as in this case or it could be a different coloured text in another and yet a entirely different page open on a app...just saying I agree but since so many weighed in I'd be willing to bet it is based on the browser used or browser / device combo.

 Cheers!
Sorry about the confusion here.  I've improved the linkify thing (turning WT IDs on G2G into links to the profiles) and added it to (Preview version of) the WBE (which I thought I'd done before).  Problems like the one above will hopefully not occur in the future.
Thanks, Megan.

Empress Maria Theresia von Austria: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Habsburg-51 - I'm sure she's well connected though her bio needs a bit of improvement.

Though not a crowned head himself, I understand that Phillipe d'Orlèans https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bourbon-1 is one of the most connected royals in Europe, including a connection by marriage and issue to the Stuart royal family.

Was going to pick one monarch for each of the nationalities I descend from but y’all make it difficult to find people who don’t have actual last names (looking at you House of Nassau hyphen who-knows-what). Instead here’s 3 of the nationalities and 2 Hawaiians in honor of AAPI MONTH and to keep from being so Eurocentric.

First up, Bloody Mary, Queen of England https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Tudor-2

Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Stewart-6849

Rory O’Conor/Ruaidri Ua Conchobair, King of Ireland https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/O'Conor-35

David Kalakaua, King of Hawaii https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Kalākaua-1

and finally the late great Queen of Hawaii, Lili’uokalani https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Kapaakea-3

There are other Pasifika or Polynesian royalty, such as embers of the Tongan royal family or the Maori royal family.

I would suggest the Maori Queen

[[Koroki_Mahuta-1|Te Atairangikaahu (Koroki Mahuta) Paki ONZ DBE (1931-2006)]] Koroki_Mahuta-1
I don't know how many are on Wikitree, but it seems to be unusual to have southern hemisphere profiles in these weekly lists.

It would be nice to have extra-European examples, because most if not all European royal families are a tight network.

Also, I'm not sure someone who wasn't born noble and then took the title of "Emperor" count as "royalty", but I guess that's a semantic issue that can be settled by changing the theme to "monarchs" or "sovereigns."
