Welcome, my fellow WikiChatterers, to another Weekend Chat! And St. Valentine’s Day greetings from Cathey’s Creek. This’ll be short and sweet!
On the Home Front: We had some nice visits from relatives this past week. My step-sister flew in from Florida. We ate out at Quixote (a favorite of ours, as you will recall). The next night the four of us cooked in: pot-roast, baked potatoes, asparagus, and a salad.
The day my step-sister leaves, my older brother comes into town, and off we go to Dugan’s Pub, another favorite of ours. I just happened to be wearing my Scotland t-shirt when the owner walks by and asks why I’m wearing a Scotland shirt in an Irish pub. I remind him that on the other side of his pub a Royal Scottish Banner is hanging, to which he responds, “Good catch. Enjoy your meal!” Ye canna beat a Scot!
The next day…. the flu hit our home, me first on Tuesday, and the wife on Thursday. I’m in a slow recovery mode, but for three days there is was pretty bad: severe muscle aches, sweating then freezing, painful hacking. I “slept” in the guest bedroom which, fortunately, has a high bed so I could just kind of roll out. When sleeping on the couch during the day, I had to roll onto the floor and crawl over to something to get myself up. All I am hoping for right now is to be well enough to go to the Asheville Celtic Festival tomorrow. Even if I am well enough, which I doubt as I am still feeling pretty lousy, I may have to go alone. The good news? I’ve dropped three pounds the past few days.
On the Genealogy Front: the flu…. which means I did very little of anything, much less genealogy. What I would like to do here is publicly recognize two groups who stepped up for me, the Greeters and the Rangers. Folks from these projects covered my shifts, and I couldn’t be more appreciative.
So, my illness dominated my week. I sure hope yours was better. I know that many of you are dealing with other kinds of issues: extensive business travel, caring for elderly parents, severe weather, and many other difficulties. But I want you to remember something that I’ve learned as a WikiTree: This is a community that cares enough to be there for its members when those members need them. I most surely have been on the receiving end of that many, many times.
Wish I had more to share with you, but I’m exhausted. Now, enjoy yourselves in the Chat!
