Biography

Hannah, the wife of William Ames was born in England roughly about 1618^[1] to1622 (based on her children being born from 1641 through 1658). Hannah and William married by 1641 and had six (known) children together. Hannah's parents and last name at birth are unknown.

William died 1 January 1653/[4?]. 6 March 1653/4, Hannah was granted the administration of his estate, valued at £45, 11s, for the benefit of herself and their children. ^[1]

By about 1657, Hannah married second John Niles. John had been previously married and had children with his first wife. He died 8 Feb 1693/4.^[1]

"Old goodwife Niles" died January 31, 1702/3.^[1][2]

Maiden Name Unknown

• Mayflower Families Vol. 15 p. 23 states that Deliverance was the possible daughter of William and Hannah (-----) Ames. Mayflower does not assign Hannah a LNAB.
• Said by some (?) to be daughter of Henry Adams and Edith Squire, but no such daughter was documented to them. This seems to be fiction of convenience.
• There was a Hannah Adams who died in Braintree, MA on 24 Oct 1705, but no relations are mentioned, nor any age.^[3] It should be mentioned that Hannah was no longer an Adams when she died but had married John Niles after the death of William.
• Torrey's New England Marriages before 1700 lists the wife of William Ames and John Niles as Hannah _____. ^[4]
