Alexis "Lexy" Aucoin, twin brother to Augustin Aucoin, was born to Martin Aucoin and Marie Gaudet on or before his christening day, March 14, 1684 in Beaubassin, Acadia (now Nova Scotia).[1] His twin did not live to be baptized.[2]

In 1686, at Baye des Mines, Alexis, aged 3, was living with his parents, Martin AUCOIN, aged 35, and Marie GAUDET, aged 27, and his seven siblings: Martin, aged 12, Marie, aged 10, Michel, aged 9, Isabelle, aged 7, Louis [recte Louise], aged 6, Agnesse [sic], aged 4, and Cecille [sic], aged 7 months. The family owned 1 gun and had 15 cattle, 10 sheep, and 6 hogs.[3][4]

Alexis (22) married Anne Marie Bourg (15) (born about 1691 in Port-Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France; daughter of Martin Bourg and Marie Potet) in 1707 in Cobequid, Acadie. Their known children were:

  1. Pierre Aucoin (1708–abt. 1757) .
  2. Sylvain Aucoin (abt. 1711–1759) .
  3. Marie Aucoin (abt. 1713–bef. 1759) .
  4. Alexis Aucoin (1717–abt. 1759) .
  5. Jean Aucoin (1719–abt. 1758) .
  6. Joseph Aucoin (abt. 1721–abt. 1788) .
  7. François Aucoin (1725–aft. 1767) .
  8. Alexandre Aucoin (1725–1780) .
  9. Claude Aucoin (abt. 1728–1759) .
  10. Hyacinthe Aucoin (1732–1808) .
  11. Amand Aucoin (abt. 1733–1756) .
  12. Cherubin Aucoin (1737– )

He farmed the land, married, and fathered nine children. Then came le grand derangement, and his family was forcibly evicted from their land, shipped as prisoners of war to various far-away ports and held there for the duration of the Seven Years' War.

According to his son Alexandre's sworn declaration of genealogy in the parish register at Belle-Ile-en-Mer, France in 1767, Alexis had married Anne Marie Bourg c.1707 at St. Charles Parish in Mines, and they had the following children in Cobeguit, Acadie (now Nova Scotia):

  1. Pierre (1708)
  2. Marie (1713)
  3. Alexis, fils (1717)
  4. Jean (1719)
  5. Joseph (1721)
  6. Francois (1724)
  7. Alexandre (1725)
  8. Cherubim (1737)
  9. Hyacinth (1742)[5]

After the Siege of Louisburg in 1758, the British exiled, to France this time, a second wave of about 3000 Acadians who had tried to fight, run, or just wait out the British. Most of these had been rounded up from Pointe Prim, Ile St. Jean, and Cobequid. Alexis, Anne Marie and some of their children were put on a ship among a convoy bound for Saint-Malo, France. They encountered a storm that sank two of the ships, Duke William and Violet. Their ship, the Neptune was blown off course, and made it to Boulogne-sur-Mer on December 26, 1758. Their names can be found here on a reconstructed partial list of the 179 Acadians of Boulogne.

Alexis died in Boulogne-sur-Mer on Christmas Day the following year.[4] He was buried that day in the cemetery of Paroisse Saint-Nicolas in Boulogne-sur-Mer, Pas-de-Calais, France.[6]
