Walter Rufus Whitt is a Military Veteran. Served in the United States Army 1956-1963 Served as a 'Cannon Cocker' for the 320th Field Artillery Unit from FT. Campbell, Kentucky
Walter Rufus Whitt was born in Virginia.
Walter Rufus Whitt was lived in Tennessee.
Walter Rufus worked for Southern Railroad at Bulls Gap, TN Depot.
He lived in Clear Fork District, Tazewell, Virginia, United States in 1940[2] and Greeneville, Greene, Tennessee, United States in 1947.
He died on 21 September 2010, in Morristown, Tennessee, United States, at the age of 73.[3][4]
He eloped with Joan Maxine Hawkins on July 27, 1954 in Sevier County, Severville, Tennessee. I have never been able to find a marriage certificate on them.
After Walter's father died in 1945, he and 4 brothers and a sister went to live at Holston Homes for Children Orphanage in Greeneville, TN. He thrived and did very well there. He always called Holston Homes his home. He attended every reunion and maintained the Children's Cemetery until his death, where he is buried: Holston Home For Children Cemetery, Greeneville, Greene County, Tennessee, USA[6]
Mother told me that Ruben was on Dad's birth certificate, although dad had been called 'Rufus' every since I knew him. [7]
Dad took to building cabinets after retirement. This does not surprise me as his father was a carpenter for a coalmine company, and his grandfather, Thomas Whitt's trade was a carpenter as was his great-grandfather.
Dad was in the US Army for eight (8) years out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

I stumbled across your father's obituary. I looked up the cemetery and all that came up was Holston Home For Children Cemetery in Greeneville, and for that cemetery it reads 100% photographed. It don't show he's listed in that cemetery. So that got me confused. So I'll leave that up to you to create a memorial if you want and to connect his his parents.
