Biography

w/o Johannes de Hooge Van Etten. Bp. 13 Jan 1706, Albany DR ch., d/o Pieter Van Nostrand Ostrander (c1680-1739) and Rachel Adamse Dingman (1684-1730).

Prior genealogy books mistakenly placed Rebecca as the daughter of Pieter Pietersen and Rebecca Traphagen, parents of Pieter Ostrander (c1680). It is now being corrected to show her true parentage.

Rebekka Ostrander and husband Johannes Van "Nette" were baptism witnesses for Petrus on 15 June 1736 at Reyn Beck (Rhinebeck) NY, a son of Frans Cool and Catharin Van "Nette." [1]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Rebecca by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Rebecca:

Ostrander-1161 and Ostrander-186 appear to represent the same person because: New research by the Ostrander Family Association and with a source of find a grave proves that Ostrander-186 is the daughter of Pieter Ostrander and Rachel Dingman not Pieter Pietersen and Rebecca Traphagen. Please merge.

I have a find a grave source that lists Ostrander-1161 as Rebecka Van Etten born in 1706 and died 1767 burined In Rhinebeck. This would be more plausible I think that the OFA is correct and they misplaced her.

What they are saying at the OFA is that they misplaced her as Pietersen-70 daughter when she is actually Pieter Pietersen Ostrander's daughter. They said they have that coming out soon in a new genealogy book with proof. So I guess there are only 12 children for Pieter Pietersen and Rebecca Traphagen and this Rebecca needs to be merged with Ostrander-1161

I just added baptism records to her currently attached father, Pietersen-70, and didn't see a Rebecca.

According to Peter Ostrander, President of the Ostrander Family Association, there was an error regarding Rebecca. It seems as there are only 12 children for Pieter Pietersen and Rebecca Traphagen and that Rebecca, daughter of Pieter Pietersen Ostrander was added in error to Pieter Pietersen. I am awaiting information so this can be corrected if accurate. It may be Catrina instead of Rebecca. I will share information as soon as I know which one.

Ostrander-699 should be merged to Ostrander-186 because the husband and other details match, notwithstanding variant spellings of the husband's name (Van Etten and Vanatta are the same name, spelled differently) and different guesses of her birthdate.

Ostrander-754 and Ostrander-186 appear to represent the same person because: No indication that they aren't the same person.

Oostrander-1 and Ostrander-186 appear to represent the same person because: Same spouse; not much else to go on. Birth years differ, but that could be a guess. Sources would help.
