Hi John, I have been researching an ancestor of mine, who may be the brother of one of your: your ancestor is Elizabeth (Betsey") Hull Ives, the wife of Eben Ives . My ancestor is named Lorenzo Hull and there is reason to believe that Elizabeth was his sister but I can find no evidence to suggest this. That being said, during my research, I came across the Revolutionary War Pensioners application that was made out for Elizabeth's father, Zephaniah Hull and later for his widow and Elizabeth's mother, Rachel (Gilbert) Hull. Apparently, Rachel needed to prove she was married to Zephaniah and in those days in Litchfield, Connecticut and surrounding areas, marriage records were not kept and Rachel needed to have a whole slew of folks testify on her behalf that they were married. That being said, during the course of my reading, I had hoped to find some mention of my ancestor, Lorenzo. Instead, there was a page that detailed the "surviving children of Rachel Hull after 1853" and they are as follows:

"Betsey" - "age 60 in 1858 and wife of Eben Ives" "John- age 50 in 1855" "Lucy- age 44 in in 1855 and wife of Sheldon Frisbie" "Curtis- age 41 in 1855" "Eben-age 38 in 1855"

The record is about 140 pages long and details that Zephaniah was a private in the 2nd Light Dragoons, Sheldon's Brigade, under Capt. David Edgar. Zephaniah is said to have enlisted on 1/1/1781 and mustered out at the end of the war in 1883. The record also indicates that Zephaniah was initially refused for the pension due to having substantial land holdings, fell on hard times, had to sell the property and then needed the pension. It also details how both he and his wife are of too poor health to "labour" and they had six children, one of whom was "a cripple" due to a hip injury. My ancestor, Lorenzo Hull, died in 1843, Two years after the death of his father.

Anyway, if in your research of your family you come across any sign of a Lorenzo Hull that might be a sibling of any of those mentioned, please be sure to let me know. The record I have cited can be found at:

The GEDCOM will not automatically populate your tree, it generates a GEDCOMpare report which you work through either accepting or rejecting suggested matches. Once you have done this the data from your file will be filled in on the add profile screen so that you can review and make adjustments before saving.

One of our mentors created a tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process that I found very helpful. I hope that you will too.

The DNA Connections list on your profile will provide a visual way for you to find potential relatives on WikiTree who have also added their DNA test information. Using DNA tools at sites like GEDMatch.com, if you find a relative that matches your DNA sufficiently and you have genealogical sources for the intermediate relationships, you can mark the specific parental relationships back to the most recent ancestor that you both share as "confirmed with DNA." For details, guidance, and examples of how to properly document DNA confirmations, see DNA confirmation.

To get the best results, begin adding sourced profiles for your ancestors until you can connect to ancestors already in WikiTree. If you have exhausted what you know on one line, it can sometimes help to add what you know on another line. The more branches you are able to add the greater the likelihood of finding potential cousins to match with. The process of identifying which branch elements of DNA relate to will better enable you to find matches that relate to the particular branches you are researching.
