Biography

Sheila Tidwell was born in Alabama.

I was born and raised in Auburn, Alabama although the hospital where I was born is in a neighboring town.

I never married and my nieces and nephews are my children.

I am a very proud Alumni of Auburn High School in Auburn, Alabama. I was a drummer in the A-Band (I am in the middle of this picture.[1] I was also in HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America). I wanted to be in the health field but that didn't work out.[2]

I have always lived in Auburn, AND love my Auburn University Tigers and my Auburn High School Tigers! War Eagle!!!!! and Go AHS Tigers!!!!

I am the family historian and keeper of all the family pictures. When my mother died, I inherited over 16,000 pictures. I am still working on scanning and sorting them all out.

I got interested in my family geneology in 2008 when my father asked me to see if I could find out any information on his Tidwell line that he didn't already know. I have been hooked ever since.

My main surnames are:
Paternal: Tidwell and Yarbrough
Maternal: Whitman and Mahone

I am in the process of getting my family tree OFF of Ancestry and onto WikiTree. Please feel free to private message me or leave a comment! I love the "collaboration" we have here on Wikitree and am always trying to learn!

Sheila, you have proposed a merger of two Morgan Buck (1804-1875) which would make Cornelius Rel Buck his father. Morgan Buck was my GG Grandfather and I hit a brick wall 2 or 3 years ago trying to establish his parents. I've had a couple of professionals working on it and they both tell me that there is absolutely no proof that Cornelius could be his father. I joined a special Buck Y-DNA group and it also points away from Cornelius. So please reconsider the merge. The professional I have working on it now seems to be making some progress but it is rather slow.

Hi Sheila,

I see you're adding the Native American Sticker to profiles (or at least one, anyway).

This sticker generates a category; when no tribe= specification is included in the sticker, the sticker generates a top level category Category:Native Americans. Ideally that category is not used on person profiles-- it's a high level category for grouping (in this case) specific tribes.

Do you know the tribal affiliation of https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Eagle-1148 ?

If not, we're starting to use the Heritage sticker instead, to avoid having individual profiles placed in the top level Native American category:

Heritage Sticker|ancestors=Native American|imagetext=Tree silhouette

Many thanks for your help!

-- Jillaine, project coordinator WIkiTree Native Americans Project

posted by Jillaine Smith
Thanks for the information. Just so I understand.....I need to use the Heritage Sticker unless I know the tribe. If I know the tribe, use the Native American Sticker?

I will look to see if I can find the tribe affiliation for https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Eagle-1148

I appreciate you reaching out. I always want to do things properly and always want to learn.

Thanks, Sheila

posted by Sheila Tidwell
Exactly. Thanks. This is a relatively new development that we're moving to.

Sometimes you can determine the tribe through the parents (if there are any). And if you're guessing, just place a note in the narrative that explains your thinking for why you believe it's one group or another. Many thanks!

Not sure if anyone can help me here but I am in search of finding out which of these families are related to Sarah, Susan, and Margaret Floyd listed on the 1860 Itawamba MS, Census along with the Burgess family, Kimmns Family, and Christopher Families. Not sure which is kin/related, and for the past 4 days I have been going person by person trying to find that connection. Their mother, Jane was born in Tennessee around 1813 and her family is from South Carolina. Does anyone know of anyone of these families that married a Floyd? Grasping at straws.
Hey Bobbie,

Did you mean to post this on my page or G2G? I can try to help if you need me too. Can you give me some WikiTree Id's?

Thanks, Sheila

Hi, Sheila. I manage AncestryDNA tests for many AL/GA relatives, including Stephen Davis. You don't match to him on Ancestry, but two tests you manage match distantly to a few of his maternal-side cousins.

On WikiTree, I manage the profile of his great-grandfather, James Kenyon White (1846-1925). You manage the profile of James' fourth or fifth wife, Martha S (Griggs) White (1865-1941). To the best of my knowledge, James and Martha had no biological children.

If this is an area you want to explore, feel free to contact me.

Hi Sheila, I see that you've marked the relationship of many of your ancestors to their parents 'confirmed with DNA'. There's a statement required to be entered in each child's biography explaining how you used DNA to confirm the parental relationship(s). It's all explained here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/DNA_Confirmation

There's a DNA Confirmation Citation Maker which will help you figure out which relationships can be marked 'confirmed with DNA'. The app will also create an appropriate statement for each profile: https://apps.wikitree.com/apps/clarke11007/DNAconf.php

Please add a statement for each child whose parent(s) you have marked 'confirmed with DNA'. Until you have an appropriate DNA confirmation statement, relationships should be marked 'confident' instead of 'confirmed with DNA'.

Please let me know if I can help. Thanks!

Hi Sheila,

For your extensive work on the Tidwell family, you deserve a Family Star!! Thanks for all you do!! Sometimes members who make significant contributions through the data errors, or arborists aren’t recognized for their family tree work. Your Tidwell line is so very well sourced with nice biographies!! Thanks!

Awwwww, thank you so much, Paula!!!! I really appreciate the star!

My Dad asked me to research his family back in 2008 right before he died. I take so much pride in the work I do "FOR HIM". And I promised my Mom that I would work on her side of the family also!

It is so nice to be recognized for that work!

Hello Sheila,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Hi Sheila,

Thanks for taking responsibility for Orphaned Profiles. This is a courtesy email to share the After Adopting Orphans FAQ which explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need from their profile managers. One quick way to find the profiles you adopted is by searching your Contributions List for the word "adopted" and "manager." You can find a quick link to your Contributions List in the My WikiTree dropdown menu.

If you will be working with any profiles needing GEDCOM cleanup, the AGC tool can help with formatting so that you can concentrate on the research. You can read more about it in the WikiTree AGC FAQ.

I hope this helps,

Debi
