Would you like to join the U.S. Southern Colonies Project? [closed]

Do you have early ancestors from Maryland, Virginia, the Carolinas, and/or Georgia, or are you interested in working on pre-1776 profiles from these colonies?  If so, come join the US Southern Colonies Project. There are plenty of ways to get involved, whether it be through a colonial, topical, or profile improvement team.

If you have an interest in U.S. Southern Colonial history, have been on WikiTree at least 30 days, have made at least 100 contributions, and have successfully taken the pre-1700 quiz, then we would love to have you join us.

To join the project, please click on the 'answer this post' link below and say that you would like to join (please don't use the 'comment' link as it makes it hard to keep track - thanks!) and list the team(s) that you want to join.  Make sure that you are logged onto Wikitree when you answer so we know who you are.  A project member will be in touch to get your email address (for the Google group discussion) and confirm your team interests.

Sincerely,

Your U.S. Southern Colonies Leaders (Darlene and Scott)

If you respond that you want to join, be sure to review the teams and list the team(s) that you want to join with your answer.  Thank you.

I would like to join the Southern Colonies group. My maiden name is Charlee Whiddon. Thank you!
Hi Charlee,

The minimum contributions to join Southern Colonies Project is 100 contributions.  You have 30 contributions.  Plus you also need to pass the Pre-1700 self certification.

Please reapply to us when you have achieved the contributions and the Pre-1700 certification.
Hi! I believe I've completed all the requirements to join.
Hi  Charles,

Watch  a private message coming your way, with what you need to do next.   Thanks.
Is this a Duplicate group if we belong to the Virginia group?

This confuses me….all the groups etc. Point me in the direction of a concise explanation of what group we should belong to.  Thanks in advance. Lynn
Hi, Lynn.  Virginia Colony in the Southern Colonies Project focuses on pre-1776 Virginia while Virginia in the United States project focuses on the post-1776 period.  Same for Province of Maryland in the Southern Colonies Project (pre-1776) and Maryland State (post-1776).
Lynn - the best list I know of is at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Project_Accounts
Hi  Lynn, you have the United States badge.  This covers Virginia subproject AFTER it became a state.

The thread you have asked this question is for US Southern Colonies which covers colonies and Provinces which began before 1776.

I will send you the information for US Southern Colonies.  Read it, then reply to my email address after you select the team you want to work with.

Thanks.

Hi Tom, you're only five contributions away from being eligible!  Drop me a private message after you've made a few more and let me know which team(s) you'd like to join.  Thanks!

Hi Linda.  One of the requirements for project membership is to have made at least 100 contributions.  Once you have passed that milestone, send me a private message or respond to this comment and tell me which team(s) that you would like to join.  Thanks for your interest.

I'd like to be part of the project.
by Marsha Sturdivant G2G6 Mach 1 (13.8k points)
You are Marsha - you had originally signed up for the Surname Team, but that team was retired & we have you on the Georgia Team... is that still good for you? You can join more than one team, or switch teams, or stick with the Georgia Team. See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:US_Southern_Colonies_Teams for the current list of of teams & https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:US_Southern_Colonies_Province_of_Georgia_Team for more about the Georgia Team (and to add your area of interest by your name there).

Cheers, Liz
Thank you Liz! I'm working on Georgia right now, I think I may be kin to the whole state. I will try to send a private message to the team leader, hoping it works!

Thanks again!

Marsha

Yes, I would love to join! I just saw your beautiful new sticker on a profile and would love to add my ancestors to the Southern Colonies project!

Also, I am pretty good at finding sources (usually), so I could do sourcing.... I can also write a decent in-line sourced biography.... Or, just put me wherever you need the most help.

Hi Mariana, once you've been on Wikitree for at least 30 days and made at least 100 contributions, you are welcome to join the project.  You can just reply to this again once you're at that stage, letting me know which teams that you would like to be on, and we'll take it from there.  I hope you enjoy Wikitree!

Yes, I am interested

Currently working my wife's tree for DAR.

She has relations from Maryland that fought in '76 and before.

by Dan Garvin G2G Crew (530 points)

Hi Dan, you first need to get pre-1700 certified.  The quiz is here.  Let me know once you've done that, and I'll award you the badge.  I already see your request to join the Google group.  I can approve it after you've completed the certification.  Do you want to join any teams other than Maryland?  We also have several profile improvement teams.

I completed the quiz and marked all of the corrects, but no finish button

The button to complete the quiz will appear below that when all the correct answers have been selected and you have clicked the box to the left of your name.

"Please answer the question below"  WHERE is the question?!

Yes, I'm interested but can't find THE question?  I see a lot of questions and answers but not THE question, LOL!  Am I missing something?

Hi John, all G2G posts have links to either 'comment' or 'answer'.  You hit the 'answer' link (as requested)!  wink

I'll send you a PM to which you'll need to respond.  I also need to know which team(s) you would like to be on.

I have not gotten a PM as yet.

Team(s): Maryland & Virginia please
I sent you one 40 minutes ago.  Check your spam.  You also can send me a PM.  I need your email address.  Thanks.
Via email?  No spam there and no PM.

Via G2G inside Wikitree?  Where would I find a PM there? I can't find any link to PMs?

Sorry for being so dense.

PM stands for private message.  To send one, you go to that person's profile where there is a link to send a private message.  It then sends an email to the person.  So others know, we have now exchanged emails and added you as a project and team member. smiley

I would like to join the Southern Colonies group, both pre and post 1700.  I have ancestors from 1600-1800 in Virginia colony.  Thank you.
by Kelly Clarke G2G1 (1.5k points)

Hi Kelly, we'd be happy to have you join us.  If I'm understanding you correctly, you want to be on both of the managed profiles teams as well as Virginia.

I'll send you a PM to which you'll need to respond.  I also need to know which team(s) you would like to be on.

Good Evening!

I am very interested in joining a group where I can hopefully interact or at least be of some use with information or work! I was born / now live in Wilmington, NC so I can help with local data and I have traced many lines of my biological family who founded various parts of NC and VA (including Jamestown).

Thank you for considering me- Cheers!

Hi Wendy, thanks for your interest.  I've awarded you the project badge and added you to Team Virginia as well as the Google discussion group.  I deleted your email from your message to protect you from spammers . . .

You'll want to add Southern_Colonies to your followed tags on your profile.  Have a look at Team Virginia's page and feel free to introduce yourself in the Google group.
