Do you want to nominate a fellow WikiTreer to have their CC7 number improved in our We Will RAWK You Event? [closed]

RAWK logoIt's come up often that we should do something similar to the WikiTree Challenge for WikiTree members. As a part of our 15th Anniversary celebration this year, we decided to introduce our We Will RAWK You Event.

RAWK stands for Random Acts of WikiTreer Kindness.

How it works:

The plan is to run this event three times in 2023 - March, June, and September. It works like this:

A month before each of these events, we will put out a call in G2G for RAWK nominations (like this one!). This is your opportunity to nominate another WikiTreer to be a potential participant in the We Will RAWK You Event.

After nominations close, The WikiTree Events Committee will randomly pick 5 of the nominated WikiTreers who will then get to be RAWKED.

A month prior to each event, we will also put out a call in G2G for RAWKERS, WikiTreers who would like to help work on the lines of the 5 participants.

On the 1st of March (June and September), we will kick off the We Will RAWK You Event. Everyone who signed up to help with research will have one month to see how much they can increase the CC7 numbers for the five nominated WikiTreers.

There are stickers for those who are RAWKED and for the RAWKERS.

Note: Members of the WikiTree Team are not eligible for nomination.

Please post your WikiTreer nomination as answer below!

The nomination period will end February 15.

If you would like to volunteer to be a RAWKER, please post an answer here

I'm glad to hear that recipients of RAWK will be picked also randomly and not based on merit as our nominations tend to do - human nature, I guess, which is often opposed to randomness, and alas!, kindness sometimes too ;-)

are there active wikitree’ers that are not connected to global tree?
by S Stevenson G2G6 Pilot (251k points)
i think all these are connected
Please provide an example of how one of them is connected to the global family tree via their ancestry.
did not understand ‘via their ancestry’ never heard that before  and a concept unfamiliar to me.
Curious, Peter, how did you pull the list? Leaders category, My Connections, everyone who was a connection but not a relative? Or something else?
Hello S., You could be connected to the global family tree by way of an ancestor's sibling's spouse's ancestry.  That however is not your ancestry.  Via their ancestry is their great great etc., grandparents' ancestry.  Not their great aunt's husband's ancestry.
Hello Johnathan,  I looked at the Leader's list and used WikiTree's Relationship Finder (not Connection Finder) to see each person's relationship with someone with several different ancestral lines back to the WikiTree's global family tree.  The above list are those leaders with no "blood" relationship to that person.  If there was a relationship then they would be cousins to each other of some degree with a shared ancestor.

I’d like to nominate Steve Entwisle-253 from England who was one of me great buddies on a YDNA skills course. Since I don’t know much about English ancestry I cannot help much myself but I’d try to help on the other RAWKEEs. Steve has a patrilineal NPE in the UK in the early 1800s which is hard to solve through paper-based genealogy, thus helping him to find living male patrilineal descendants of that line would be amazing, although I am not sure it would increase his CC7 a lot. He also has his tree on Ancestry so sourcing his other lines should be easier, increase his CC7 and connect him to various English lines here on WikiTree.

Hi Peter,

I have documented cousin relationships with Gisèle Cormier (8th cousin), Jacqueline Girouard (8th cousin), and Isabelle Martin (8th cousin, 3 times removed).

Peter, under WikiTree's terminology, "connected" does not mean genetically related. Connected, and therefore CC7 connections, are all about the people connected to you, not only the people you are directly descended from, which is where I think your response to the original question has gotten confused. Personally, I am "connected" to the global tree even if I am not genetically related to the people currently featured.

While I'm more than happy for people to work on my lines if they choose to do so, I'm conscious of the fact that we do have other incredible genealogists (including Leaders) who aren't connected to the tree either through these connection trails we utilise or through their ancestry.

I would like to nominate Gaile Connolly (Gordon-4080).

She's super helpful in GTG and really deserves this. Also, she's not connected to the tree yet.

EDIT: Oops, checked again, Gaile IS connected to the tree. I still think she's a good candidate for this though.

Joke, thank you so much for this nomination.  I am only connected through about a half dozen marriages and not connected by blood relatives.  I had finally made a breakthrough and discovered two generations back from my maternal grandparents and my paternal grandmother, but couldn't get far on my paternal grandfather.  All the research for all these is in Lithuania, Hungary, and maybe Poland and/or Ukraine (when they were all part of the Russian Empire) and it is way beyond my ability to get any further, so I gave up and have been working on community profiles for the last 4 or 5 years.  I would LOVE to know more about my family - this would be a wonderful blessing to me if the skilled WikiTree researchers take my family on.

Can I nominate myself as I have a 'brick wall' at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Crisford-358

There was a fire, and records were lost before this date.

by Graham Crisford G2G5 (5.5k points)
Hi Graham! Not this time, it's for nominating others, but we've talked about having either the June or September event be an opportunity for people to nominate themselves.
Okay, I'll nominate Graham Crisford! ;-)

I want to nominate Murlen Posey. He has an interesting case with his ancestor Francis Posey. This will most like require a trip or two to the SC Archives.

Francis' parents are unknown and I think this could be solved with some Archival work. He is living in Pendleton County, South Carolina in 1800, with lots of good neighbors.

Thanks in advance.

I second that
I agree with this. John helps whenever he can.

Nominating my first cousin, Sandra (Peasley) O'Leary, for her maternal ancestry, (her mom is a family member: Doris (Eylenfeldt) Peasley.)

  • Eylenfeldt-4
  • Knupfer-24
  • Tapio-51

I've done some work for her on them, but it would be great to have those with expertise in those countries assist with expanding these lines.

These lines aren't of our shared ancestors.

I nominate Mags Gaulden.  Mags is a dedicated WikiTree leader, vlogger, and all-round cheerleader. Her passion for genealogy and commitment to preserving family history has resulted in numerous contributions to the platform, helping to build a comprehensive and collaborative database for future generations. Mags exemplifies the true spirit of community and teamwork, consistently supporting fellow users and sharing her expertise with all. She is a most deserving nominee to be RAWKed.

Yes Mags is definitely deserving she is not just a Wonderful Wikitreer but and Amazingly, Wonderful, Helpful, Knowledgeable, Giving, (and I'm sure many more adjectives) Wikitreer.
I agree. Mags is an amazing person and dedicated WikiTree member who gives of her time and expertise. From the Secret Santa event, she agreed to meet me (we live in the same city) and gave me a totally new direction to research in trying to identify an unknown direct line paternal ancestor when yDNA results were not as expected.

I nominate the inimitable Greg Clarke, whose work many on here enjoy and some may not even realize they rely on. His fan chart app is amazing, but his own is unbalanced after four or five generations and could use some help.

by Jonathan Crawford G2G6 Pilot (280k points)
Agreed!!! Greg is awesome :)
I totally agree!
Yes, Greg is awesome and totally deserving of help with either his bio or adopted family.

I would also nominate Amy Gilpin, she leads and contributes to so many things I can't imagine she has enough time to devote to her lines

by Jonathan Crawford G2G6 Pilot (280k points)

YES!! Amy is the bestest heart

I second/third this nomination, she is awesome in categorization, and even more awesome teaching hopeless cases like myself the ways of the Amy. She is a sensei -bow- cool

Awe, thank you  guys!
