We need to pass this on to future generations so they understand who we were, who we are and who we want to be in the years to come.
I began documenting our family history in 1990 when my father, Walter Harden, began aging. I would write down the names of family members he found as a result of his search. His father passed away when he was a young boy, so after his mother passed away in 1964, he began searching for relatives from his father's side of the family with a passion.
Today, I use Family Tree Maker and Ancestry.com to maintain over 35 trees, one major tree has over 25,000 individuals, which includes extended family members because I was attempting to do what WikiTree does, which is create one single family tree.
I have shared my research results at family reunions in the form of family history books. I am always reminding family that these books are a 'work in progress' because they change constantly and are usually outdated by the end of the reunion.
I have helped many to make a connection and I have personally connected with family lines lost. I look forward helping other WikiTreers as well.
In the event of my death, I would like all of the profiles that are of direct ancestors and their descendants to be entrusted to the care the WikiTree Team. Any non-family profiles with a privacy level of OPEN can be orphaned. Any non-family profiles with a privacy level of PRIVATE to be entrusted to WikiTree volunteers to manage as appropriate.
