Biography

Dora was born February 1, 1877, in Scotts Bay Road, Canning, Nova Scotia. Like the other children, she was delivered at home with a midwife instead of at a hospital.

Her birth certificate application, filed in 1945, includes an affadavit from her uncle C.C.(?) Corkum who says he was there at the birth, while boarding at the house.

This application has her middle name as Lila, but her marriage certificate has it as Delilah. C.C. Corkum was a witness and J.P. Corkum was the minister?

She married Alfred Corbin from Berwick in 1905.[1] They lived in Aylesford, Nova Scotia.

Unlike some of her sisters, she stayed in Nova Scotia all her life.

Memories: 1
Enter a personal reminiscence or story.
As far as I know, Aunt Dora and her husband, Alfred Corbin, had no children. Aunt Dora lived with her sister, Pearl Lyons; in her childhood home on Scots Bay Road, for the final years of her life. I spent several days visiting at Aunt Pearl and Uncle Roy's around July, 1971. During those days, a physically frail Aunt Dora, entertained with her charm and wit. Her conversation was filled with literary quotes and poetic passages. Not a bit of mental frailty at the advanced age of 94! I believe that she died within the next year or so. Dora and Pearl were my grandmother, Bertha Legge Lyons' sisters. Marsha Auger
