Biography
Françoise Bourgeois was born around 1659[1] very likely in Port-Royal, Acadie since she was on the first Acadian census of 1671 of Port-Royal at age 12.[2] Her parents were Jacques Bourgeois, a military surgeon, pioneer, founder of Beaubassin, and Jeanne Trahan.
She married Claude Dugas, an armorer, around 1673.[1] Claude was about 24 years of age at the time, and Françoise about 14. They had 12 children between about 1674 and 1692[1] :
In 1686, at Port Royal, Francoise BOURGEOIS,aged 25, was living with her husband, Claude DUGAS, aged 38, and their eight children: Marie, aged 12, Claude, aged 10, Anne, aged 7, Francoise, aged 6, Joseph, aged 6, Marguerite, aged 5, Jeanne, aged 3, and Agnesse [sic], aged 1. They owned 1 gun and lived on 8 arpents of cultivable land with 25 cattle, 9 sheep, and 11 hogs.[3]
In 1693, at Port Royal, Francoise BOURGEOIS, aged 34, was living with her husband, Claude, aged 44, and their 11 children: Marie, aged 17, Claude, aged 16, Francoise, aged 14, Joseph, aged 13, Marguerite, aged 11, Anne, aged 10, Jeanne, aged 9, Agnes, aged 7, Francois, aged 5, Madeleine, aged 4, and Cecile, aged 1. She was living in the household of her husband's parents, Abraham DUGAS, aged 74, and Marguerite DOUCET, aged 66. The family owned 4 guns and was living on 26 arpents of cultivable land with 20 cattle, 30 sheep, and 15 pigs.[4]
Françoise died before 1697 since Claude remarried around that year, and she was not enumerated in the 1698 census of Port-Royal.[1][5]
Note: No place given for birth, but she was on the Port Royal censuses of 1671 and 1686.
Claude DUGAS, son of Abraham & Marguerite DOUCET, married 1st around 1673 to Françoise BOURGEOIS, daughter of Jacques (1) & Jeanne TRAHAN; twelve children.
Note: No place given for marriage, but presumably in Port Royal, Acadia, based on the censuses there.

Children (one son and one daughter are married) - Jeanne 27, and Charles 25; then Germain 21, Marie 19, Guillaume 16, Marguerite 13, Francoise 12, Anne 10, Marie 7, Jeanne 4; cattle 33, sheep 24, more or less 20 arpents of cultivated land at two different locations.
at Port Royal: Claude DUGAS 38, Francoise BOURGEOIS 25; children: Marie 12, Claude 10, Francoise 6, Joseph 6, Marguerite 5, Agnesse 1, Jeanne 3; Anne 7; 1 gun, 8 arpents, 25 cattle, 9 sheep, 11 hogs. In the original 1686 census at Port Royal, Agnes was listed as Agnesse, Claude, aged 11, was transcribed as aged 10, and Francoise, aged 10, was transcribed as aged 6.
